BTS earned their first Grammy nomination

This boy band is known for its historic appearances at the Grammy Awards. They became the first K-pop group to present an award in 2019.

In 2020, they became the first K-pop group to grace the Grammy stage, performing alongside Lil Nas X for a version of “Old Town Road.” Now, this group is nominated for their first-ever award at the ceremony.

The nomination is in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, for their 2020 disco-pop release, “Dynamite.” As their first song performed entirely in English, BTS didn’t initially plan on releasing this single.

‘Dynamite’ is also BTS’ first No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100

“Dynamite” came about as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the members wanting to get upbeat music to fans as soon as possible. It eventually became the group’s first No. 1 hit on the “Billboard Hot 100” music chart just in time for Jungkook’s birthday during September 2020.

“It’s one of the hugest deals that we ever had in our career,” RM said of the Grammy nomination during an interview with Amazon Music. “It feels really different from the Billboard Hot 100 because it’s not some number.”

“It’s the biggest honor to be nominated,” he continued. “It’s the Grammys, something that every musician dreams about, it means more than just the nomination.”

The members recorded their first reactions to the nomination announcement

When the BTS members first found out about the nomination, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook were seated together on a couch. When the announcer mentioned “Dynamite,” RM and Jimin jumped out of their seats with excitement. V stayed on the couch, almost stunned.

“The reactions were different for each member. In my case, I just couldn’t believe it,” V said during an interview on The Late Late Show with James Corden following the Grammy Award announcements.

“Actually, I’m not in the video because I was sleeping, so I cried when I woke up,” J-Hope added, mimicking tears. The 2021 Grammy Awards were scheduled to take place during January. However, the ceremony has since been postponed to promote social distancing and a safe environment for the musicians.

BTS has not made it clear if they will attend or perform at the upcoming ceremony. More information will presumably be announced in the coming weeks. Until then, the “Dynamite” music video is available on YouTube.
