BTS just broke the record

For five years, Adele held the record of the most No. 1s on iTunes with her song “Hello.” Adele released the song in 2015, and it reached No. 1 on iTunes in 102 countries.

In July 2020, BTS broke Adele’s record when their song “Black Swan” reached No. 1 in 103 countries. BTS released “Black Swan” on Jan. 17, 2020, and the song was the first single released from their recent album Map of the Soul: 7.

Since releasing the album in February 2020, BTS achieved a number of personal bests. Map of the Soul: 7 debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the band’s fourth No. 1 album in less than two years. “ON,” the album’s lead single, reached BTS’s highest position on the Billboard Hot 100 chart at No. 4.

V broke BTS’s own record with ‘Sweet Night’

Just days after BTS broke Adele’s record, V broke BTS’s record. He officially became the artist to have the song with the most iTunes’ No. 1s in history when “Sweet Night” reached No. 1 on iTunes in 105 countries. He has since extended the record after achieving 109 No. 1s on iTunes worldwide.

“Sweet Night” was released in March 2020 when it was featured in the Itaewon Class OST. A few days before its release, V and RM held a VLIVE livestream for ARMY. During the VLIVE, V told fans that he had been working on songwriting and one of the songs he wrote would be released soon.

The song V was referencing ended up being “Sweet Night.” While V told fans he did not want to worry about the song’s chart rankings, the song quickly shot up on music charts around the world.

Fans are proud of the singer

After V extended his iTunes record, BTS fans took the time to congratulate him on social media. Even though the song received little promotion, “Sweet Night” made music history.

One fan tweeted, “So guess who’s the First and Only artist in the World to chart a song at #1 in 109 countries?!”

“Sweet Night achieved 109 #1’s on itunes! i believe it’s king/legend behavior Kim Taehyung did that #SweetNight109 @BTS_twt,” wrote a Twitter user.

“Congratulations Taehyung as Sweet Night reaches 109 #1 on iTunes worldwide further extending his record as the artist with the most #1 in history #SweetNight109 @BTS_twt,” one ARMY tweeted.
