BTS has been on a rise these past couple of years. The group went from being relatively unknown in their native country of South Korea to become one of the biggest boy bands in the world.

BTS as a whole has broken numerous records and done things that no K-pop artist has ever accomplished before. However, it seems that even by themselves, the individual members of BTS can have just as much success as the group itself.

For example, BTS’s leader, RM, recently broke a sales record all on his own. Read on below to learn more about what RM did.

BTS’s RM collaborated on a track with singer Younha

In January 6, Korean singer Younha released a new album called Unstable Mindset. One of the songs in it is a track that features BTS’s RM, called “Winter Flower.”

RM is known to be a huge Younha fan, and he often shares her music on social media.

As for how the two of them came to collaborate, Younha recently revealed: “RM and I have said for years that it would be great if we could collaborate. There wasn’t any music that would have the right topic or synergy, so I didn’t suggest anything, but then [the musician] Edenary drew me a picture, and I finally sent RM the suggestion.”

RM and Younha have busy schedules, so it was a bit difficult to work together, but they managed to create an incredible finished product in the end.

“We worked on it over the phone, and we communicated about the lyrics by exchanging so many e-mails with prose,” Younha said. “We praised each other by saying we’d fought a good fight.”

RM and Younha’s song recently broke a sales record

Although “Winter Flower” is not a single that RM and Younha are promoting, it still managed to chart anyway. It came in at number 48 in South Korea and number 30 on Billboard’s Digital Song Sales list.

According to Forbes, the song sold around 4,800 copies so far, which might not sound like much at first, but it is actually an impressive number in a year where sales have largely been replaced with streams.

Other BTS members have also done well on their own

RM is not the first BTS member to have achieved something significant outside of the group.

For example, J-Hope landed at number 1 on Billboard’s World Digital Songs chart last year with his single “Chicken Noodle Soup” featuring Becky G. In 2018, he also released his first solo album, Hope World, which charted in the top 20 in several countries, including the U.S.

Meanwhile, Suga has charted several times on his own as well. His first album, Agust D, was released in 2016 and landed at number 3 on Billboard’s World chart. More recently, he was featured in Halsey’s new album, Manic, with a track called “Sugar’s Interlude.” The song sold over 9,000 copies in the U.S.

Other members have also released solo tracks that are included in BTS’s various albums. Some songs that have charted in both South Korea and the U.S. include Jimin’s “Lie, “Jungkook’s “Euphoria,” and Jin’s “Epiphany.”

Outside of music, the members of BTS have also done quite a lot as well, which serves to increase BTS’s popularity. Several of the guys have appeared on well-known Korean reality shows. Jimin and Jin even acted as MC’s on music countdown programs for a period of time.

From 2016 to 2017, V was one of the cast members in the Korean drama Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth. The show ended up winning two awards and was aired in several countries around the world.
