‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Star Sarah Michelle Gellar Keeps a Stake Next To Her Bed
All those years of playing the popular TV show character, Buffy Summers, rubbed off on Sarah Michelle Gellar. The Buffy the Vampire Slayer star keeps a stake next to her bed.
Sarah Michelle Gellar started ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ at 19
Born in New York, Gellar started out as a child actor. She appeared on the soap opera All My Children before getting cast as the strong, independent title character in Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Gellar was 19.
The WB debuted Buffy the Vampire Slayer on March 10, 1997. The show featured Gellar protecting the inhabitants of Sunnydale, California from evil when she wasn’t trying to have the typical high school experience.
Also in 1997, Gellar starred in the cult classic horror film, I Know What You Did Last Summer. On the set of the movie is where she met Freddie Prinze Jr., her future husband.
Sarah Michelle Gellar’s favorite ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ keepsake is a stake and holy water
Gellar stopped playing the Chosen One in 2003 but she has reminders of Buffy the Vampire Slayer at home. The actor keeps a stake and holy water next to her bed.
During a 2014 Reddit Ask Me Anything or AMA, Gellar shared that two items comprise a cherished Buffy the Vampire Slayer keepsake.
“I think my favorite is that my makeup artist had made a special stake for me with a little bottle of holy water, and to this day I keep it by my bed,” she said, adding that she still has some of Buffy Summers’ clothes.
If that’s not enough, the actor finds nods to Buffy the Vampire Slayer in her everyday life. As previously mentioned, Gellar found a wooden stake during a March 2020 walk.
She posed with the stake for a photo, sharing it with her Instagram followers. Gellar captioned the post, “[sic]Hmmmm …….. found this on my walk today.”
Sarah Michelle Gellar auditioned to play Cordelia Chase on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’
Initially, Gellar auditioned to play Cordelia Chase, Buffy’s foil. And Charisma Carpenter, the actor who played Cordelia, originally auditioned to play Buffy.
After seeing their auditions, the people behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer felt the actors would be better suited to each others’ roles. Thus, Gellar got cast as Buffy and Carpenter as Cordelia.
Sarah Michelle Gellar says ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ doesn’t necessarily need a reboot
Reboots and remakes are a trend in Hollywood. But don’t expect Gellar to reprise her role as Buffy Summers soon. She feels that Buffy the Vampire Slayer still holds up so why mess with a good thing.
As previously mentioned, Gellar opened up about a reboot in 2019.
“I think the way we ended lends itself to it, but at the same time, I’m so proud of the show that we made,” she said. “So does it really need to be done again?”
