‘Butter’ Is Back at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Thanks to BTS’ Remix With Megan Thee Stallion
BTS originally released their second English-language single “Butter” on May 21. The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went on to spend nine non-consecutive weeks at the top spot. On Aug. 27, BTS dropped a remix of “Butter” featuring Grammy Award-winner Megan Thee Stallion. Following the release of the remix, “Butter” returned to No. 1 on the Hot 100.
BTS’ song ‘Butter’ returned to No. 1 following the remix with Megan Thee Stallion
On Sept. 7, Billboard shared the new rankings of the Billboard Hot 100. With the new remix featuring Megan Thee Stallion, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook’s song rose to No. 1 once again.
According to Billboard, “‘Butter,’ released on HYBE/BigHit Music/Columbia Records, drew 12.2 million radio airplay audience impressions (down 39%) and 10.7 million U.S. streams (up 110%) and sold 143,000 downloads (up 108%) in the week ending Sept. 2, according to MRC Data.”
Billboard also explained that while the song rose in popularity again following the release of the remix, only the original version is credited on the chart, writing:
“‘Butter’ returns to the top of the Hot 100 following the Aug. 27 release of its remix featuring Megan Thee Stallion. (The song continues to be credited solely to BTS on the Hot 100 and Digital Song Sales, as total activity for the original and other mixes solely by the group outpaced that of the new remix in overall metrics, including sales, during the tracking week; Megan Thee Stallion is credited this week on Streaming Songs, as her remix was the song’s most dominant version in streaming for the week.)”
BTS achieved a new accomplishment with ‘Butter’
BTS have had a total of five songs reach No. 1 on the Hot 100: “Dynamite,” “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” with Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo, “Life Goes On,” “Butter,” and “Permission to Dance.” Due to the continued success of “Butter,” the band achieved multiple milestones with the song.
Billboard reports that most recently, “‘Butter’ becomes the 40th single in the Hot 100’s 63-year history to spend 10 or more weeks at No. 1. It’s the first since Roddy Ricch’s “The Box” logged 11 weeks on top in January-March 2020.”
After spending 10 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 and numerous weeks in the top 10 spots, Billboard also crowned “Butter” as the top Song of the Summer in 2021.
BTS and Megan Thee Stallion collaborated on ‘Butter’
On Aug. 25, Big Hit Music and Megan Thee Stallion announced a remix of “Butter” would be released on Aug. 27. The new version featured ad-libs and a new verse by Megan Thee Stallion.
A press release about the “Butter” remix writes:
“Whilst the original version brimming with bright energy put forth the distinctive personality of BTS, the latest version adds more flavor with the rap verses from Megan Thee Stallion. The sometimes smooth and at times charismatic duality of BTS infused with Megan Thee Stallion’s powerful vocal delivery, ad-libbing and signature sound creates a unique soundscape for the listeners to enjoy.”
