King Charles’ wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, is technically the queen after she and Charles both celebrated their coronation back in May 2023. Earlier this year, Camilla continued to take on royal duties while Charles stepped away from the spotlight after revealing his cancer diagnosis. Although Camilla slowed down on royal engagements to help take care of Charles, she continued to make appearances as needed.

Now, Camilla is the one taking a bit of time off as she battles a chest infection that has caused her to pull out of some upcoming royal engagements.

Camilla Parker Bowles is taking time off to get healthy

Whether an illness is big or small, royals deserve some time off when their bodies need to rest. Camilla is making headlines as she pulls out of a few royal engagements in November in order to heal from a chest infection. According to Express, Camilla was supposed to attend the Field of Remembrance event in early November, which is held annually at Westminster Abbey to remember veterans, but she had to pull out due to illness. Camilla also declined to attend an event for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, which was slated to take place at Buckingham Palace.

“Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest,” a spokesperson for Camilla said. However, the statement added that Camilla “very much hopes to be recovered” soon and in enough time to attend additional Remembrance events in the upcoming days. The statement said Camilla has “great regret” about pulling out of the missed events.

Camilla will seemingly take this time to rest, and Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin, the Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, plans to take Camilla’s place during the engagements.

The royal family has been putting their health and families first

Over the past year, several royal family members have been hit with health scares that have forced them to take a hard look at their lives and what they choose to prioritize. The monarchy is modernizing, and Prince William and Kate Middleton have made clear that they are putting themselves and their families first. Earlier this year, Kate was diagnosed with cancer, and while she is now cancer free, it’s changed the way she views her role.

Charles is still reportedly undergoing cancer treatment but returned to full-time duties in the spring. Still, he understands that he can’t do quite as much as he used to, and both Charles and Camilla are working to make sure neither over-exerts themselves. It’s unclear when Camilla will return to royal duties, but reportedly within the next few days.
