Camilla Parker Bowles has been getting a lot more rest and relaxation over the last few weeks as she continues to recover from a chest infection she dealt with during the fall. The queen consort, who is married to King Charles, has missed out on a few events here and there, and she continues to need a more loosely-fitted schedule due to dealing with “extreme tiredness” from her illness, per palace sources.

Camilla Parker Bowles continues to recover from an illness

Although Camilla’s condition is improving, she is still taking some time away from the royal spotlight and attending engagements where she can. Camilla was noticeably absent from outdoor events at the royals’ welcome for the Qatari visit, which took place on December 3. According to Express, she has been advised by her doctor that she needs more time to heal, so she’s been removing herself from planned events.

“Some days the queen is on really good form,” a source close to the royals said, per Express. “It’s just one of those things. She has lost the coughing, but the lingering side of it is bouts of extreme tiredness. There has to be a degree of flex in the queen’s diary at the moment.”

Camilla has been able to attend some events, but, for example, she’s participating in more indoor events than outdoor ones, likely due to the colder months upon the United Kingdom. Camilla is still recovering from what has been diagnosed as viral pneumonia, which explains why she is taking her recovery slowly. She came down with the illness after returning home from a trip to Australia in late October.

The royal family has dealt with unexpected illness this year

Of course, the royals’ health has been top of mind for people all over the world in recent months, and it seems that everyone is taking things slowly. Earlier this year, Princess Kate and King Charles were both diagnosed with cancer, and Kate took a number of months off to focus on chemotherapy. Charles took time off as well but was able to return to work while continuing treatment.

This year has certainly changed the way the royal family views work. When Kate announced in late summer that she is cancer free, she also put an emphasis on what matters most: Her health and her family. It’s no surprise that Camilla is taking her healing seriously as the royals continue to put their health and well-being above royal engagements.
