‘Captain Marvel 2’: Brie Larson Reportedly Does Not Want to Be Overshadowed
Nia DaCosta was recently announced as the director of Captain Marvel 2, and this has made fans even more excited for the sequel. Rumors have it that Captain Marvel 2 will take after Captain America: Civil War in that multiple heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will appear in the film. According to a report by We Got This Covered, Brie Larson, who plays Captain Marvel in the MCU, has concerns about being overshadowed in the movie.
Brie Larson is reportedly concerned about ‘Captain Marvel 2’
Captain Marvel 2 is rumored to feature multiple MCU heroes, similar to the way Captain America: Civil War did. Right now, a fifth Avengers film does not have a release date, but a second Captain Marvel film is slated for 2022. If the rumors are true, Captain Marvel 2 could act as a bridge between Avengers: Endgame and a fifth Avengers film.
However, according to We Got This Covered, Larson is worried about possibly being overshadowed in a movie that is supposed to be about her character.
The publication wrote:
“But amidst all this, Brie Larson wants to ensure that the focus stays very much on Carol Danvers, as it’s still her movie… Larson has expressed concern to Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios that she may be overshadowed in Captain Marvel 2 given all that’s going on plot-wise and all the prominent characters who are set to be involved. Not to mention the fact that Monica Rambeau is said to have a large role in the project, too – something else which Larson is reportedly worried about.”

The actress is set to lead the MCU
Larson’s reported concerns are valid, given that Captain Marvel is the main character in the upcoming sequel. Larson also knows her worth as an actress, as she brought name recognition to the role after winning an Academy Award for her leading role in Room.
Since Larson joined the franchise, Captain Marvel grossed over $1 billion worldwide, becoming the first female-led superhero movie to earn $1 billion. Larson later appeared in Avengers: Endgame in April 2019, and it became the highest-grossing film of all time, making over $2 billion worldwide.
In a March 2019 interview, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that even before Larson proved to be a successful fit in the MCU, she was meant to lead the franchise, saying:
“When we found out that Brie Larson might be interested in joining our world, we had a number of meetings. She was a huge fan of the character in the comics. One of the highlights of my career at Marvel was introducing her at Comic-Con and having her come out on stage and stand there with literally almost everybody else from our movies. There she was at the forefront, and it was a great foreshadowing – not just for how audiences are going to embrace Brie as this character, but also for how Captain Marvel is about to take the lead and be at the forefront of the entire Cinematic Universe.”

Brie Larson reportedly wants to be the face of the MCU
Before Larson came into the picture, Robert Downey Jr. was considered the face of the MCU with his role as Iron Man. According to a previous report by We Got This Covered, Larson is “reportedly pushing for the same kind of status that Downey Jr. previously held, that made him both the highest-paid member of the studio’s roster and the focal point of the marketing and promotion of any of their projects that featured his involvement.”
Given that Larson brought name recognition to the role of Captain Marvel and was hired to lead the MCU, her wanting the same treatment as Downey makes sense.
