Cara Delevingne Opens up About Gender, Says ‘I Feel Different All the Time’
The Paper Towns star previously opened up about her sexuality. Now Cara Delevingne is talking about it and her gender identity. She explained why she feels different about it all the time and feeling badly for people she’s dated like Ashley Benson.
Cara Delevingne previously said she’s sexually fluid
Delevingne has come out as sexually fluid. She later clarified what that means with Glamour.
“Once I spoke about my sexual fluidity, people were like, ‘So you’re gay.’ And I’m like, ‘No, I’m not gay,’” she said. The actor went on to say her friends were also confused.
“A lot of the friends I have who are straight have such an old way of thinking,” she said. “It’s ‘So you’re just gay, right?’ [They] don’t understand it. [If] I’m like, ‘Oh, I really like this guy,’ [they’re like], ‘But you’re gay.’ I’m like, ‘No, you’re so annoying!’…. Someone is in a relationship with a girl one minute, or a boy is in a relationship with a boy, I don’t want them to be pigeonholed. Imagine if I got married to a man.”
She said she feels different about her gender
The model talked about her gender identity and sexuality in an interview with Variety. Delevingne said she feels different about it day to day.
“The thing is with me, I change a lot,” she said. “I feel different all the time. Some days, I feel more womanly. Some days, I feel more like a man.”
She then opened up about her sexuality. “I always will remain, I think, pansexual,” Delevingne said. “However one defines themselves, whether it’s ‘they’ or ‘he’ or ‘she,’ I fall in love with the person — and that’s that. I’m attracted to the person.”
Delevingne claimed Harvey Weinstein also told her that she couldn’t come out. “Harvey was one of the people that told me I couldn’t be with a woman and also be an actress,” she said. “I had to have a beard.” The actor said she was “disheartened” by this.
She said she feels bad for people she’s dated
She has since dated multiple celebrities publicly. “I’ve always felt bad for anyone I’ve ever been in a relationship with,” she said. “It’s very hard to maintain the normality in it. I think it’s why I tend to keep my private life a lot more private now, because that public thing can actually ruin a lot of things.”
Delevingne was previously in a relationship with Pretty Little Liars actor, Ashley Benson. Benson was then photographed with G-Easy. There were rumors that they started dating, which angered fans.
Delevingne made a response to this in her Instagram Story. “It’s more important now more than ever to spread love, not hate,” read the post. “To everyone hating on @ashleybenson, please stop. You don’t know the truth, only her and I do and that’s exactly how it should be.”
She is now playing a pansexual fairy named Vignette on Carnival Row. The production of it is currently on hold due to the pandemic.
