Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s recent record ‘WAP’ has been a major hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 and breaking streaming records. The massive record has garnered a ton of attention—both positive and negative—from celebrities, entertainers, and even politicians due to its risque subject matter and explicit lyrical content. Cardi was even involved in a recent Twitter exchange with Candace Owens due to the controversial song.

Regardless of the spectrum of reactions the song and video have received, it remains extremely popular and continues to get a ton of streams and views on Youtube. To further promote the song Cardi and Megan recently released exclusive behind the scenes footage from the video shoot, in which the two play with a 150-pound Burmese python, run through the choreography for the scenes, and share laughs about the experience, all just a few days before Los Angeles was shut down due to COVID-19.

Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘WAP’ record is a massive hit

Released on Aug. 7, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” record has been a cultural sensation that’s garnered countless responses from listeners worldwide. The bawdy single has been massively successful for the two, with the record topping the Billboard Hot 100 and getting 93 million streams in its first week of release, according to the LA Times. The song has also been downloaded more than 125,000 times, and its video currently has over 192,000,000 views.

Yet, despite the song’s undeniable popularity, it has also generated a lot of negative publicity due to its explicit lyrics and suggestive subject matter. Conservative political media figures such as Ben Shapiro and Candace Owens have condemned the song, but Cardi has remained unphased by the criticism. According to an interview with Australian radio show Kyle & Jakie O, Cardi believes the negative responses are only from one particular group.

“The people that the song bothers are usually conservatives or really religious, fake religious people,” she said. “I grew up listening to this type of music, so to other people it might be strange and vulgar, but to me it’s almost really normal.”
