Cardi B has always been a queen of calling people out, and no one is safe from her aim — not even the president. Cardi has been highly critical of Donald Trump since before he even took office, and she’s been one of the most politically active rappers in the industry in this election year.

Cardi B is a political junkie

Cardi B often faces criticism for voicing her opinions about politics and using her platform to get people informed. But Cardi’s love of politics goes back even before her music career.

In 2016, when Cardi was a cast member on Love & Hip Hop: New York, she released a video teasing a run for president and discussing her interest in the American political system.

“When I was in high school, I used to be obsessed with presidents,” she remembered. She acknowledged that the president’s power is often limited by Congress and the Supreme Court, and she specifically called out Donald Trump — then a Republican candidate for President — for making a “mockery” of the office.

In this election cycle, Cardi was a supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders, and met with him in person and later did a livestream with him so her followers could learn about the political system and what Sanders had to offer as a candidate. When Joe Biden became the Democratic presidential nominee, Cardi similarly spoke to Biden to learn about his platform and encourage her fans to vote.

Cardi B has called out the Trumps before

Cardi B has taken aim at Trump many times throughout his presidency. During the first presidential debate between Biden and Trump, she made several Instagram posts with her commentary on how Trump barely let Biden speak.

But the President isn’t the only member of the Trump family whom Cardi has called out by name. After her record-breaking single “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart, conservative women across the country were outraged at the song’s success.

Author and former congressional candidate DeAnna Lorraine tweeted “America needs far more women like Melania Trump and far less like Cardi B.” Cardi caught wind of the tweet, and had one simple response: “Didn’t she used to sell that WAP?” She followed it up with a nude photo of Melania from her modeling days, saying “This pic giving me ‘yea you f*ckin wit some wet ass p*ssy’ vibes… just sayin.”

Cardi B reacts to Donald Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis

When President Trump revealed he tested positive for the coronavirus, Cardi wasted little time in offering her thoughts on the situation. But in classic Cardi style, she did it in a way that poked fun while simultaneously plugging herself.

After Trump tweeted “Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” Cardi retweeted it with the comment “‘BET YOU WANNA’ wear a mask now.”

“Bet You Wanna” is Cardi’s collaboration with K-pop girl group BLACKPINK from their new project The Album. Cardi has been posting about the song since its release the same day as Trump’s diagnosis, and used the opportunity to plug some new music while calling out Trump for not caring about COVID safety precautions since the pandemic started.
