Cardi B Said She Needs More ‘Friends’ Like Ellen DeGeneres Since All Her Friends Get Her Into ‘Fights and Trouble’
Both music artist Cardi B and comedian Ellen DeGeneres are getting talked about more often than ever in 2020. DeGeneres is coming under fire after reports that both she and her production crew are rude and inappropriate in the workplace. And Cardi B’s “WAP” featuring Megan Thee Stallion is getting plenty of praise, critique, and raised eyebrows.
Now, we’re looking back at DeGeneres’ interview with Cardi B when Cardi was pregnant with her daughter, Kulture. Here’s what the rapper had to say to DeGeneres about wanting to be best friends.
Ellen DeGeneres is in hot water after complaints about her show’s production crew
DeGeneres is having a tough go in 2020. Buzzfeed was the first to report that staff members from The Ellen DeGeneres Show experienced rude, insensitive, and sometimes racist behavior at the hands of production, Us Weekly reports. From there, the three executive producers of the show publicly apologized.
“Over the course of nearly two decades, 3,000 episodes and employing over 1,000 staff members, we have strived to create an open, safe and inclusive work environment,” the producers stated. “We are truly heartbroken and sorry to learn that even one person in our production family has had a negative experience.”
It’s not just production who felt the heat, either. Staffers also wondered why DeGeneres didn’t step in. “I think the executive producers surround her and tell her, ‘Things are going great, everybody’s happy,’ and she just believes that, but it’s her responsibility to go beyond that,” one former staff member from the show told Buzzfeed.
Cardi B appeared to have a great time during her appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’
While many are wary of DeGeneres following these allegations, some celebrities are standing up for the comedian. And not every interview DeGeneres has had on the show has been a major hit, but Cardi B certainly seemed to have a great time. She appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2018 for the first time.
In the beginning of Cardi’s appearance, DeGeneres and Cardi have funny banter regarding Cardi’s name. “Do I add the B? Do I do Cardi B? Or just Cardi? I want to act like I know you,” DeGeneres playfully asks.
The banter then switches over to Cardi’s performances and pregnancy. And Cardi jokes about the dance moves she introduced at Coachella. “I was just trying to show the world how I got pregnant in the first place,” she notes — and the audience went wild.
Cardi B noted she wanted to be friends with DeGeneres
Toward the end of the interview, it’s clear Cardi B and DeGeneres establish a friendly connection. DeGeneres then notes that she knew Cardi’s daughter’s father, Offset, since she helped him buy a car. And Cardi jokes that she “wished she was friends” with DeGeneres so that she could get a great deal on a car, too.
“Well, now you are,” DeGeneres comments back. And they continue the conversation by talking about what kind of car Cardi wants. To that, Cardi notes she wants a Lamborghini truck even though she’s just a “professional passenger.”
“I’m gonna look up my friends and see if I can get you a Lamborghini truck,” DeGeneres adds.
“See, I need friends like you,” Cardi B laughs. “All my friends just get me into fights and trouble.”
“That’s not me. That’s not our friendship,” DeGeneres jokes. “Our friendship is going to be totally different, Cardi.”
It doesn’t look like Cardi has spoken for or against DeGeneres in the wake of the current drama. But judging from this interview, we imagine she’d go back on the show.
