Despite their differences, Imogen (Tamzin Merchant) and Agreus (David Gyasi) turned their initial animosity toward each other into a genuine friendship and love. But in the Carnival Row season 1 finale, the two are caught in bed together by Imogen’s brother Ezra (Andrew Gower). As Agreus tries to keep Ezra from assaulting Imogen, he inadvertently headbutts him and knocks him down.

Imogen realizes that no one will take Agreus’ side because of the city’s unfavorable opinions of the faun. Knowing they are in danger, the couple gets on the Swan and sails away from the city, hoping to start fresh in a place where their relationship is accepted.

Tamzin Merchant teases what’s ahead for Imogen and Agreus

Imogen and Agreus may have gotten on the first ship out of town. But according to Merchant, the two will face a whole new set of challenges when Carnival Row returns for season 2.

“Imogen and Agreus get on the ship at the end of season 1, and everything is grand for the first five minutes of season 2,” she told EW. “And then things go very badly wrong for them.”

Merchant didn’t reveal where the two would end up. But she did suggest that wherever Imogen is going, she won’t need a corset. The actor also suggested that in season 2, Imogen will be humbled much more than she was last season.

“What I love about Imogen and just really spoke to me about that character is how much on her high horse she is, and then she gets knocked off her high horse,” Merchant said. “She gets taken down a whole new level by the people she meets in season 2.”

She also noted that the new season would continue to focus on morality and social values. “Erik Oleson came on board as showrunner, and his team of writers have been creating some really interesting stories about the moral landscape,” Merchant revealed. “What happens when you build a wall around the ghetto, as they did at the end of season 1, and what happens and what rises out of that.”

What’s the ‘Carnival Row’ Season 2 release date?

Carnival Row premiered in August 2019. So, it’s been over two years since fans last saw Philo (Orlando Bloom) and Vignette (Cara Delevingne) do their fae thing. Unfortunately, production was delayed due to the pandemic and Orlando Bloom’s schedule. Otherwise, fans would have had new episodes already.

Amazon has yet to announce an official release date. But in September 2021, the Carnival Row Twitter account announced that season 2 wrapped filming. When replying to Prime Video’s query about the arrival of season 2, the show’s account responded, “Patience, good things come to Faes who wait.”
