Carole Baskin Claims There Are ‘Unsavory Lies’ About Her Husband’s Disappearance in ‘Tiger King’

The bizarre documentary, Tiger King focuses on the rivalry between Joe Exotic and Carole Baskin. The Netflix series tries to cover everything leading up to Joe Exotic trying to hire someone to murder her.

But that also includes him suggesting she was involved in her husband, Don Lewis’ disappearance in 1997. She is now responding to the documentary.

‘Tiger King’ addressed the disappearance of Carole Baskin’s husband

The documentary focused on Joe Exotic’s feud with Baskin. He publicly suggested she killed her husband, then fed him to her cats in videos and a music video. There was another theory covered that he was put in a septic tank under one of their buildings.

However, there is no evidence of foul play. Baskin addressed these theories saying her meat grinder was too small to even get a hand through it in the series. She then said the septic tank was in the ground and operational before her husband disappeared.

The release of the series got people talking about these theories. Baskin decided to address them again.

She called the documentary ‘disappointing’

Baskin took to her blog to respond to the series in a post called “Refuting Netflix Tiger King.” She starts off with claiming she was told the project had a specific goal of being like Blackfish, but about breeding of big cats for cub petting exploitation.

“There are not words for how disappointing it is to see that the docuseries not only does not do any of that, but has had the sole goal of being as salacious and sensational as possible to draw viewers,” read the post. “As part of that, it has a segment devoted to suggesting, with lies and innuendos from people who are not credible, that I had a role in the disappearance of my husband Don 21 years ago.”

It then continued, “The series presents this without any regard for the truth or in most cases even giving me an opportunity before publication to rebut the absurd claims. They did not care about truth. The unsavory lies are better for getting viewers.”

She addressed the claims around Don’s disappearance

Baskin claims in the post that Don showed signs of mental deterioration before his disappearance. She claimed he would call her crying because he didn’t know where he was and would refuse to use the bathroom.

The post later addresses every person who talked about his disappearance in the series. That included his ex-wife, Gladys Lewis Cross and daughters Donna Pettis, Lynda Sanchez and Gale Rathbone.

“After Don disappeared there were years of my having to manage the properties under a Conservatorship demanded by Gladys and the daughters,” read the post. “The numerous attorneys they involved, all being paid out of the estate, reduced the assets significantly. Ultimately the assets in the PRSL trust, that had the daughters as beneficiaries, went to them. Those assets were worth about $1 million.”

It then added, “The assets in the other trust, worth about $2mm by then, came to me. The claim the girls made in the series that I picked the assets they got and that they were bad assets is nonsense. They got the assets from the trust they were beneficiaries of, worth $1 million.”

She also called the meat grinder theory the “most ludicrous of all the lies.” The post reads, “The meat grinder shown in the video was enormous. Our meat grinder was one of those little tabletop, hand crank things, like you’d have in your kitchen at home, like the one pictured here. Meat had to first be cut into one inch cubes like you see here to go through it. The idea that a human body and skeleton could be put through it is idiotic.”

It seems like Baskin isn’t happy about how the documentary approached Don’s disappearance. There has yet to be response from those behind the documentary to address the post.
