Carrie Bradshaw and Kate Middleton Have the Same Taste in Shoes
You wouldn’t think Sex and the City character, Carrie Bradshaw, and the Duchess of Cambridge would have much of anything in common. Apparently, they do. Sex and the City fans might notice that the shoes Kate Middleton is wearing in her official portrait with Prince William look awfully familiar. They are the shoes, albeit in a different color, forever linked to Sex and the City: The Movie.
A new portrait of Prince William and Kate Middleton was just released
The first-ever joint portrait of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has officially been unveiled. According to CNN, the painting was commissioned in 2021 as a gift to the people. British artist Jamie Coreth completed the project. Coreth has won several major awards for his portrait work.
The portrait is currently hanging in the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge; it will remain there for three years. The painting will also be displayed at the National Portrait Gallery when it reopens next year.
Kate Middleton is wearing a pair of Manolo Blahniks made famous by Carrie Bradshaw
In the official picture, Middleton looks stunning in an emerald green dress, while Prince William looks dapper in a casual suit. While Middleton’s dress is spectacular, many Sex and the City fans can’t stop looking down at the duchess’ feet. In the portrait, she is wearing the Manolo Blahnik Hangisi pumps.
The traditional pump is easily recognizable by its studded buckle across the toe. The shoe is classic and elegant. It happens to be one of the designer’s most famous styles. It was made famous by Carrie Bradshaw. Carrie slipped on a royal blue pair for her 2008 wedding to Mr. Big in Sex and the City: The Movie. The shoe was featured a second time in the premiere of And Just Like That…, the HBO Max reboot of Sex and the City.
There is one key difference between Kate Middleton and Carrie Bradshaw’s Manolo Blahnik pumps
While Middleton wore the shoes that Carrie Bradshaw made famous, she didn’t completely rip off the fictional character. Carrie wore the royal blue version of the Hangisi pumps, both in Sex and the City: The Movie and in And Just Like That.., while the duchess opted for the emerald green version of the shoe. The shoe perfectly matched her The Vampire’s Wife dress.
Manolo Blahnik makes the pumps in multiple other colors, too. Those so inclined can pick up the famous heels in hot pink, teal, purple, orange, light grey, lime green, light pink, champagne, and black, as well as Carrie’s royal blue number and Middleton’s emerald green pick. The shoes retail for $1,125.
The shoemaker is a favorite of Carrie Bradshaw’s. Middleton is clearly a fan, too. The Hangisi isn’t the only Manolo Blahnik that Middleton has been spotted in over the years. Still, Middleton’s shoe game isn’t nearly as singularly minded as Carrie’s. While she’s been spotted wearing several different Manolo styles, she’s also been photographed in everything from Jimmy Choo sandals to Superga trainers.
