Carrie Underwood Revealed Her ‘Kids Are Her Alarm’
Like countless other parents, country star, Carrie Underwood, likes to sneak in a little quiet time with her husband, Mike Fisher, before she starts each day. With her kids as her “alarm,” her routine sounds pretty down to earth for a superstar. According to her, she leaves her stage presence on the stage and lives a relatively normal life of family meals and keeping calendars.
Carrie Underwood doesn’t always act like the person she is on stage
Though the American Idol winner is nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the 2022 Academy of Country Music Awards, she leaves her award-winning stage persona on the stage.
She told People, “I feel like if I were the person that I am on stage when I’m at home, I just don’t know if [I] would … have too many friends.”
After she clarified she likes “getting to play that role” while performing, she said she didn’t think it would translate so well into her home life. “You can’t be that big of a personality all the time,” she declared before adding, “Well I guess you can, but it’s gotta be exhausting.”
Carrie Underwood, Mike Fisher, and their kids are ‘just really normal people’
In 2010, Underwood married Fisher and they now share two children, Isaiah, 7, and Jacob, 3. Of her family, she said, “We’re just really normal people and I’m so thankful that we are.”
She told People she and Fisher wake up early in the mornings to get a little quiet time before the alarm, much like many other couples. “My kids are my alarm,” she explained, much like many other parents.
Once everyone is up, they have breakfast together and head out the door to start their days. “I have a calendar-journal that I look at for the day and week ahead,” she shared. “It’s nice to see it laid out in front of me.”
While Underwood often has as lot to do, she doesn’t like asking for help. “I don’t like a lot of people in my space,” she explained of working alone. But she finds easy fixes for her needs where she can — like microwave burritos. “I don’t ever get tired of those,” she stated.
Carrie Underwood has dinner with Mike Fisher and their kids 6 nights a week
While Underwood takes her own health and that of her family seriously, she believes dinnertime is about more than good eating habits. She told People her family uses it for quality time.
Notably, she doesn’t eat meat but Fisher is a hunter who enjoys it. So, they find ways to compromise on what’s on the table. But when it comes to getting that time at the table with their kids, they’re in agreement.
“We have dinner together six nights a week,” she explained. “I feel like that’s something really important. What my husband and I talk about more than anything is how to make sure our children have a ‘normal’ childhood. That’s hard with this particular life.”
So, they also enforce bedtime at 8 p.m., leaving the couple free to catch up on shows like The Bachelor or The Walking Dead. Underwood summarized, “That’s my balance, work hard and then veg.”
