Celebrity Chef Reveals What Johnny Depp Ate All Day When He Was With Amber Heard
Johnny Depp and Amber Heard made headlines in April 2022 for their latest court case–a defamation trial against the actor’s ex-wife.
Some who knew the former couple have been giving testimony of what they saw when the two were together. One person who worked with both Depp and Heard but likely won’t end up on the witness stand is celebrity chef Leon Rothera. He remembers that on a movie set the Pirates of the Caribbean star only ordered one thing the entire day. Read on to find out what that food was.
Depp and Heard’s defamation trial
Depp is suing Heard for libel alleging that she falsely portrayed him as an abuser in a 2018 op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post describing herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” Heard did not name Depp in the piece but he claims it has negatively affected his acting career ever since.
The Libertine actor testified that he and his ex did argue often but said: “Never did I myself reach the point of striking Ms. Heard in any way nor have I ever struck any woman in my life.”
The trial began on April 11 and is expected to last about six weeks.
Depp ordered just 1 thing to eat when he visited Heard on set
Rothera has been a restaurateur for several years. He’s opened popular eateries in the U.K. and gained a reputation that put him in demand to cater for a number of movie sets.
One of those sets was London Fields, which Heard starred in. Rothera spoke about cooking for Depp on the set which began filming in 2013. The chef explained to Hello! that the Finding Neverland actor was a big fan of boiled eggs.
“He was hidden away for the vast majority of the time. He only came onto the film as a favor for his then love interest, Amber Heard. The only thing he wanted to eat was boiled eggs for the duration,” he said.
Rothera elaborated a little more and revealed how many eggs Depp ate telling Express he ordered “either four or six. I expect he was bulking but it’s something that sticks in your head.”
The chef has cooked for plenty of other stars but calls Depp the ‘most famous’
Rothera told Hackney Magazine about some of the other stars he worked for but said that he considers Depp “the most famous.”
“We’ve cooked for every British film and TV person you can think of!” the chef said, adding, “The most famous person I’ve ever cooked for is Johnny Depp probably.”
Billy Bob Thornton was on the London Fields set too and Rothera recalled that he “raved about our food and gave us a hand-written thank you. ”
The chef was also asked to cook for the cast and crew of the James Bond film No Time to Die.
In addition to movie sets, Rothera has since worked during the taping of several TV shows like The Crown, Fleabag, and Broadchurch. He was personally requested on those sets by Olivia Colman.
