Celebrity Self-Care Routines
Taking better care of yourself is likely top of mind at the beginning of the year. Around this time of year, it’s not unusual to see celebrity Instagram posts highlighting health resolutions. Here are three celebrity self-care routines from The Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond, Jennifer Lopez, and Joanna Gaines.
‘The Pioneer Woman’ Ree Drummond
Drummond is a busy Food Network star taking care of five children and a rancher husband. Between work and family, she still finds time to engage in self-care. In The Pioneer Woman magazine, Drummond says she sometimes likes to just enjoy some quiet time. Drummond also likes to include Ladd during some of her down time.
“Quiet time on the sofa is my most treasured activity, self-care or otherwise!” says Drummond. “Watching a movie or Netflix series with Ladd, working on my computer, sipping red wine… just any kind of downtime!”
Massages are also another way Drummond likes to unwind. She bought a massage chair for her family, but she says he ended up being the one who uses the chair the most.
“I also have a whopper of a massage chair in our living room, and I sometimes crawl in there a couple of times a day if things are crazy in my house,” says Drummond in her magazine. She also likes to get a massage at the spa, but the pandemic has caused her to put her spa plans on hold.
Jennifer Lopez
Lopez says daily affirmations. She tells Rolling Stone she became more “spiritual” after her children Max and Emme Muñiz were born in 2008. In addition to going to therapy and praying, she makes a habit of repeating affirmations each day. The publication says some of the affirmations she meditates on are, “I am whole; I am good on my own; I love the universe, the universe loves me.”
Lopez also tries to focus on the things she’s grateful for. She tells Rolling Stone she tries to live her life with a focus on gratitude. She’s thankful for the people in her life and getting to do what she loves each day.
“I try to always live from a place of gratitude,” says Lopez. “But today, especially, if you ask me what my first thought was, it was, ‘Thank you. Thank you, God, for this day. Thank you for my life, what it is.’”
Joanna Gaines
In the latest issue of Magnolia Journal, Gaines writes about the effort she made to nurture herself. She says she was giving more than she received and she began to feel “unbalanced” and depleted. Gaines says her family joked about her going to the “extreme” so she could enter a state of restfulness.
Gaines did everything she could to restore herself. For her, restoration meant doing the things she loved—reading, cooking, and spending time at home.
“I considered what I’m already drawn to, what I already know wakes me up and brings me life — nature, the garden, being in my kitchen, and the peace that meets me there — and I leaned in,” says Gaines in her Magnolia Journal column. “For weeks, I pored over books, threw my hands into the soil, and filled every surface of the house with jars for canning just about anything. My family joked that I’d gone a little extreme, but for the first time in a long time I felt full, truly full. And at the end of those days, I was bursting with so much more to give. And really, that’s all that I was after.”
