Do you want to learn how to cook or perfect your skills but you’re hesitant to get in the kitchen and start? The Pioneer Woman star Ree Drummond has some advice that might help you. Here are some tips the Food Network star shared.
Ree Drummond always loved to cook
Drummond is quite comfortable in the kitchen. She tells Parade she enjoys whipping up a good meal for her friends and family. For her, cooking a soothing activity that comes second nature.
“Fortunately, I love to cook,” says Drummond. “It’s just something I’m comfortable doing. I can think when I cook. I can listen to a podcast when I cook.”
The Accidental Country Girl also loves to eat. She says she looks forward to her next meal even when she’s eating. Food is a big part of her life.
“I love to eat, and I always have,” says Drummond in her Parade interview. “My sister and I are the same. As soon as we finish a meal, we start thinking about what the next one is going to be. My mom was a really great home cook, and my mother-in-law cooked for crowds of cowboys and visitors. They were my main cooking inspirations.”
Ree Drummond’s tips for getting comfortable with cooking
If you need confidence when you’re in the kitchen, The Pioneer Woman is here to help. She tells Taste of Home the first step is to not overthink. It’s easy to get yourself worked up to the point where you become too anxious to prepare a good meal. Drummond says the only way to get good at cooking is to practice.
“You’ll mess up a lot and it won’t turn out exactly right,” Drummond tells Taste of Home. “But then one day you’ll just make like the best meal ever.”
Drummond also recommends starting with a simple dish. Don’t try to make something too complicated. The Food Network star reminds home cooks to have fun. “Cooking should be about fun!” she says.
Drummond also recommends preparing a recipe you’re comfortable with and then adjusting it to fit your personal cooking style. Once you get better at making this dish, you’ll become confident enough to move on to other recipes.
A third tip Drummond offers is to lay out all your cooking tools and ingredients before you start preparing your meal. This way, you won’t have to run around your kitchen and guess if you have everything you need. Prepping your cooking area beforehand will reduce stress.
What’s next for Ree Drummond
Drummond is preparing for her eldest daughter’s (Alex Drummond) wedding. Alex is set to marry her college sweetheart, Mauricio Scott. The wedding will take place at the Drummond ranch.
Drummond says the wedding will be outdoors, so she’s a little nervous about the weather. Oklahoma weather tends to be unpredictable, so she’s hoping everything turns out well and there’s no rain or strong winds.
