Celine Dion Wanted to Sing 1 Song Over 1,000 Times
Some singers get sick of their own music very quickly. On the other hand, Celine Dion wanted to sing one of her songs a thousand times because she loved it so much. Critics fell in love with the track.
1 Celine Dion song is like listening to a whole musical in 7 minutes
During a 1996 interview posted on her YouTube channel, Dion discussed her tune “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” “I don’t know how many times I’ll have to sing this song before it’s over,” she said. “I hope it will never be over.
“[Music video director] Nigel [Dick] asked me to sing it a thousand times,” she added. “I will do it, because this song is part of me. It has a special place in my heart, and I will sing it for the rest of my life. And I hope I’ll get to sing it more than a thousand times. I don’t care, I love this song, and as much as you want to hear it from me, I’ll sing it.”
Dion said the tune was different from the rest of her discography. “The name of the single is ‘It’s All Coming Back to Me Now,'” Dion said. “This song is probably the biggest song I have ever recorded in my whole life so far.” It’s easy to see why Dion felt that way. After all, “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” is a seven-and-a-half minute long power ballad with multiple changes in tempo and tone. It’s like listening to an entire Andrew Lloyd Webber musical in a fraction of the time.
Celine Dion noted that ‘It’s All Coming Back to Me Now’ was written by a major songwriter
Dion noted that the tune was written by Jim Steinman, the music genius behind Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell and Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell. “It’s a Jim Steinman song,” she said. “To me, it’s Gone with the Wind. It’s a very powerful song, very romantic, and it’s a very visual song. It’s a big video.”
At this point, it wouldn’t be surprising if Dion has performed “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” a thousand times or more. She released the ballad nearly 30 years ago and it’s been a staple of her live performances ever since. However, it would be hard to keep track of every time she performed the tune.
What critics thought of the song
It’s much easier to track the critical reception of “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” Dion has never been a critical daring, especially since she was a pop star who peaked before music critics started taking pop music seriously. However, “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” is generally considered some of her best work.
In 2024, the CBC (one of the most famous news outlets from Dion’s native Canada) ranked “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” as Dion’s best song. These days, “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” isn’t as famous as the Titanic soundtrack single “My Heart Will Go On,” but it’s a lot more musically exciting and vocally impressive.
Dion wanted to sing “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” a thousand times — and we wouldn’t mind if she sang it another thousand times.
