Since Chadwick Boseman died on Aug. 28, people who he impacted have been sharing how much he meant to them. Those could be the Hollywood stars and filmmakers he worked with on Black Panther and other movies and the fans who watched his work. Some fans had a personal story of Boseman’s kindness to share.

In Feb. 2018 upon the release of Black Panther, Boseman told SiriusXM about two boys he knew who had cancer. Ian and Taylor died before they could watch Black Panther, and Boseman choked up just telling their story. After Boseman’s death, Taylor’s parents shared more about what Boseman gave their son an their family. 

Taylor’s parents confirmed Chadwick Boseman’s story

When the 2018 SiriusXM clip was reshared over the weekend, Brain Hammond confirmed his son was one of the boys in Boseman’s story.

“Chadwick was talking about my son when he broke down and cried,” Hammond tweeted. “He was heartbroken that Taylor didn’t get to see the finished product. When all of the world’s eyes were on him, his heart & mind was on our angel. #RIPKing #FightOn #ForTaylor

Hammond elaborated, writing in subsequent tweets, “We can’t stop crying. We don’t even know what to say. He was fighting cancer the whole time he was talking to Taylor and we never knew. Rest well, King T’Challa. We love you. It was at this very moment that Chadwick Boseman, celebrating the biggest performance of his career, broke down in tears. He was saddened because my son Taylor was unable to survive his cancer long enough to see…”

Chadwick Boseman visited Taylor in the hospital before he finished ‘Black Panther’ . 

In reply to Boseman’s family’s announcement of his passing, Taylor’s cousin, Duke Manyeweather, confirmed Boseman would visit Taylor in the hospital too.

Taylor’s mother shared the ‘Black Panther’ star’s video message and her son’s reaction 

Nicole Hammond shared the video of Boseman sending greetings to Taylor, along with Taylor’s reaction. She gave Showbiz Cheat Sheet permission to share the video. 

“Hey, what’s up, Taylor?” Boseman said in the video. “This is Chadwick Boseman aka T’Challa aka the Black Panther. Just wanted to give you some love and some positive energy, man. A dear friend of mine was telling me how courageous and strong you are. So man, I just wanted to give you a shout out. Have  wonderful, wonderful holiday weekend. Blessings to you and your family.”

The end of the video shows Taylor’s elated reaction.

“Thank you,” Taylor beamed. “Thank you T’challa aka Black Panther. I’m so excited you sent love for my family. Thank you so much.”

Team Hammond for Childhood Cancer Awareness

Brian Hammond hopes sharing Taylor’s story, and Boseman’s involvement, will help raise awareness of childhood cancer. Hammond also shared a message for his family’s efforts. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month.
