How Charles Michael Davis became an actor
During an interview with Mitra Ahouraian, Davis spoke about his journey to Hollywood. He says he didn’t start out with the goal of becoming an actor. His early entertainment jobs were in print modeling. Davis says he was exposed to acting after his agent took him to a convention in Florida. During the convention, Davis entered modeling and acting competitions. “When it came time for callbacks at the end of the competition, the majority of mine were for acting, so I got to meet different agents from New York and LA,” Davis told Ahouraian. “Then I seriously considered [acting]…. Once I got to LA, I dove into acting.”
Charles Michael Davis’ work outside of acting
Davis has many credits as a producer and director. He made his TV directorial debut with a 2017 episode of The Originals titled “High Water and Devil’s Daughter.” The following year, he directed another episode of the series titled “What, Will, I, Have, Left.”
Davis told E! News that he wanted to direct an episode of The Originals since the beginning of his time on the show. He also said he was inspired to direct after Paul Wesley directed an episode of The Vampire Diaries. “I became so curious,” Davis told E! News. “I got some tips, and then I started shadowing around season two, and then they gave [Joseph Morgan] an episode in season three and I watched and learned from Joe.”
The NCIS: New Orleans actor told E! News that sitting in the director’s chair was a “rite of passage” for him. “What I learned was to be a director, to be successful, you have to have your own stamp, so you’ve got to have an opinion and be specific,” said Davis. “I put a lot of thought and imagination behind it, and I really thought some things out, so it was kind of a reflection of where I was in life, taking on this bigger responsibility. I need to stand by it and fight for it, you know?”
