Charli D’Amelio and Addison Rae used to be in the same content house

D’Amelio and Rae became popular around the same time. The two of them were ordinary teens who found fame on TikTok overnight in 2019 and 2020. Both stars had backgrounds in dance, so they attracted attention for dancing to popular songs on TikTok and joining in on fun trends.

D’Amelio is currently the most followed person on the platform, while Rae is in third place.

D’Amelio and Rae have both been a part of the Hype House, a content house based in Los Angeles that includes numerous big names on TikTok. However, they both have since left the house. According to The Hollywood Reporter in the spring of 2020, D’Amelio left “when the Hype House started to become more of a business.” Meanwhile, Rae has not shared why she left.

Charli D’Amelio explains why she unfollowed Addison Rae and other people

Over the weekend, D’Amelio got fans in a frenzy as she gave her Instagram account a makeover. The TikTok star, who has over 43 million followers on Instagram, decided to delete most of her posts and unfollowed over 1000 people, including Rae.

According to screenshots from Def Noodles, D’Amelio later tweeted an explanation to her fans.

“I want to unfollow everyone on Instagram and start over,” she wrote. “Don’t worry, everything is okay. My account is on a hold, but I will be able to follow more fan pages if my account is less packed, which means I have to start over from 0. I love you all.”

In a response to a fan, D’Amelio also further explained that this is a solution to help her account “crash less.”

D’Amelio has since re-followed hundreds of people, though Rae is not on that list. Nonetheless, Rae still follows D’Amelio and her sister, Dixie

Since they left the Hype House, some people have speculated that D’Amelio and Rae may have a feud. However, this rumor has never been addressed or confirmed by either star.

Being the most followed person on TikTok, lots of other social media creators want to be around D’Amelio. However, D’Amelio once shared on Dixie’s Early Late Night Show that it can be difficult to make friends with other influencers.

“It doesn’t feel like it used to, where there was collaborations and fun, and everyone was friends,” D’Amelio said. “Now it’s like… everyone’s trying to beat each other. That doesn’t make sense to me, and it’s not what I started TikTok [for].”

Dixie also added, “I think the fact that you’re the biggest on the app… and when they realize you wanted a real friendship—and not just collab—and they couldn’t use you, that’s when they stopped [hanging out with you].”
