Charli D’Amelio Reveals Why She Is Posting Pictures of Herself With Acne
Charli D’Amelio is a celebrity who found fame on TikTok. With over 137 million followers, she is currently the most followed person on the platform.
In the age of social media, many people use filters and Facetune to enhance their photos online. However, D’Amelio recently decided to post pictures of herself with acne, and the 17-year-old explained her reasoning behind this decision.

As the most followed person on TikTok, D’Amelio has also gained a large following on other social media platforms, such as Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube. As a result, she receives a lot of comments on everything she posts.
However, not every comment is positive. In fact, D’Amelio has talked about some of the mean messages people have sent her and even shared that they sometimes discourage her from posting. She once said on the podcast 2 Chix, which she hosted with sister Dixie D’Amelio, that the negativity made TikTok less fun for her.
“It’s extremely difficult to continue posting a platform where people that are watching your videos don’t actually, like, want to see you and a lot of the feed back is negative,” D’Amelio said. “It’s very hard to do that. And I just kind of lost the passion for it because it used to be really fun for me.”
Charli D’Amelio shares why she is posting pictures of herself with acne
On Feb. 22, NBC News reporter Kat Tenbarge posted on Twitter two photos of D’Amelio that are unfiltered. Tenbarge wrote, “I think it’s really nice that Charli D’Amelio doesn’t edit out her acne!!”
After seeing the tweet, D’Amelio responded and explained why she decided to post these pictures.
“It’s taken me a long time to feel comfortable in my skin but this is how I look and makeup only helps so much,” the TikTok star wrote. “I have to be confident and learn to love every ‘imperfection’ that I have but each one makes me unique and special in my own way.”
Charli D’Amelio wants to show fans vulnerability
D’Amelio has used her platform to show fans some of her vulnerable sides. For example, she and her family have a reality show called The D’Amelio Show in which they give viewers a glimpse into both their lives in Los Angeles. Both D’Amelio and her sister have opened up on the series about the difficulties of being famous.
“A lot of the times people will be questioning things or wondering, and although some things are hard to talk about, even for me, I know how important it is that if I’m open with everyone else,” she told Teen Vogue in 2021. “[When I am] they might feel better and be able to talk to people if they need support or if they need help or if they’re struggling with their mental health.”
She continued, “I know that I’ve been there and I know how difficult it can be to talk about it or even admit it to yourself, but if I can do that on such a big scale with so many people watching, maybe it’ll help someone else that feels alone and they might not feel as alone. And that feels really good because I wish I had someone like that to look up to and feel like I wasn’t alone.”
