Spider-Man: No Way Home brought Charlie Cox’s Daredevil into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a brief scene between his hero and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. But according to Cox, the cast filmed a now-deleted moment with Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan that jokingly paid homage to his role as Foggy Nelson from Ben Affleck’s Daredevil movie.

Jon Favreau portrayed Foggy Nelson in Ben Affleck’s 2003 ‘Daredevil’ movie

Some fans may have forgotten (or choose not to remember) that Affleck portrayed Matt Murdock long before Cox took on the role for Netflix. In his 2003 movie, Daredevil, Affleck portrays the beloved Hell’s Kitchen superhero, opposite Jennifer Garner’s Elektra and Michael Clarke Duncan’s Kingpin / Wilson Fisk.

In the film, Favreau plays Matt’s best friend and fellow law partner, Franklin “Foggy” Nelson. Five years later, the actor and filmmaker appeared as Harold “Happy” Hogan in Iron-Man, which he continues to play in the MCU

In the Daredevil TV series, Elden Henson takes over the role of Foggy opposite Cox’s Matt Murdock.

A deleted ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ scene joked about Jon Favreau’s ‘Daredevil’ character

Cox surprised fans with his Daredevil cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In the scene, Matt Murdock sits down with Peter Parker, Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), and Happy to offer legal advice.

The actor kept mum about his appearance for months. But now that the cat’s out of the bag, he’s talking about his MCU experience.

In a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Cox noted how great it was to meet Favreau on set. And he revealed the two bonded over their shared Daredevil connection and threw a little joke about it in their scene.

“I don’t think they used it, but we added a little Easter egg where he goes, ‘Yeah, I’m a little foggy on how that happened,’ or something,” Cox said. “That was a cool moment for me to meet him and chat about all that stuff.”

Cox and Favreau’s “foggy” Easter egg wasn’t included in the film. But, it could be featured as a bonus when the film is released digitally or on Blu-Ray.

After ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ there’s a chance Charlie Cox’s Daredevil meets Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan again

After Spider-Man: No Way Home was released, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige announced Cox would appear as the Daredevil again in future MCU projects. The actor doesn’t know where or when that will be. But he hopes to see his superhero crossover into other MCU stories.

“The one thing that being in the MCU allows that we couldn’t really do with the Netflix stuff, is that I can now interact with other MCU characters,” he told Supernova. “Crossovers is the thing I would like to do next — there are some really interesting stories there that I’d love for the character to explore.”
