‘Charmed’: The 3 Episodes Shannen Doherty Directed
One of Shannen Doherty’s most popular roles is her turn as Prudence “Prue” Halliwell on Charmed. Fans saw her on the TV show fighting evil as a witch. However, the actor stepped behind the camera to direct three episodes of the series.
Shannen Doherty directed the ‘Charmed’ Season 2 finale
First and foremost Doherty’s an actor. But she became a director during her time on Charmed. According to IMDb, Charmed Season 2 Episode 22: “Be Careful What You Witch For” marked Doherty’s first-ever directing credit.
The finale episode of the show’s second season follows sisters Prue, Piper (Holly Marie Combs), and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) as they encounter a genie played by 3rd Rock from the Sun’s French Stewart. Unbeknownst to the sisters, the genie’s been sent by a warlock to steal their powers.
When the genie arrives at the Halliwell Manor, the sisters are immediately suspicious. They decide not to use the three wishes the genie’s offered them and proceed to figure out how to put him back in the bottle.
Meanwhile, Prue goes on a boring date during which she accidentally makes a wish to feel the euphoria of first love. The genie grants her wish and suddenly Prue’s back to being a teenager with braces.
She’s not the only sister to unintentionally make a wish. Piper wishes for her ex, Dan (Greg Vaughan), to move on with his life while Phoebe asks for an active power. Dan becomes an old man and Phoebe gains the ability to fly.
Before the episode’s over, Prue dies. Piper and Phoebe scramble to bring their sister back to life. The finale ends with the Charmed Ones being reunited and Prue doing her signature move of closing the Manor’s door using her power.
Shannen Doherty went back in time as a director in ‘Charmed’ Season 3
Doherty became a director once again in Charmed Season 3. She directed Charmed Season 3 Episode 14: “The Good, the Bad and the Cursed.”
The episode follows Prue as she teams up with Phoebe’s boyfriend, Cole Turner (Julian McMahon), to save the day. Prue and Cole go back in time to a ghost town in the Old West complete with cowboy hats and horses.
As someone who can see the future, the youngest of the Halliwell sisters is connected to the cursed town. When a man gets shot in the past, Phoebe feels his pain.
Cole and Prue’s mission is to break the curse that’s been put on the town so they can save Phoebe’s life. But they only have until sundown to do it. Meanwhile, Phoebe inches closer to death.
Prue and Cole discover the only way to break the curse is to get the townspeople to stand up for themselves. When they do so, the curse is lifted and Phoebe’s life is saved.
Shannen Doherty directed her last episode of ‘Charmed’
Drama on the set of Charmed saw Doherty’s departure from the series at the end of season 3. She exited the show but not before directing her final episode. Doherty directed Charmed Season 3 Episode 22: “All Hell Breaks Loose.”
In the season finale, the Charmed Ones go up against Shax. While fighting the demon, Prue and Piper are exposed as witches. Unbeknownst to them, a local reporter captures the scene. Soon, their secret is broadcast on the news.
While trying to vanquish Shax and save an innocent doctor, Piper is shot. She dies and the sisters turn to Tempus to turn back time so they can get their sister back. But things don’t work out as planned.
The episode ends with Piper and Prue unconscious at the Manor after a fight with Shax and Phoebe trapped in the underworld with the Source. Their fate is unknown until the start of Charmed Season 4 when fans learn of Prue’s death.
