Jennifer Aniston is relatively new to Instagram

In October 2019, Aniston almost broke the internet when she posted her very first photo to Instagram. “And now we’re Instagram FRIENDS too. HI INSTAGRAM,” Aniston captioned a candid photo of herself and her castmates Courtney Cox, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer.

Prior to joining the social media platform, Aniston spoke about constant exposure as a celebrity and the need to protect her personal life on the Thrive Global Podcast. With the revival of Friends and her colleagues active on social platforms like Instagram, Aniston felt the need to keep up. “I don’t feel I’m missing out, but I do sometimes feel that I’m not keeping up or that things are happening at a speed at which I’m going to be left behind in the dark ages,” she explained. Much to the delight of Stokes, Aniston joined Instagram.

Jennifer Aniston is Chase Stokes’ celebrity crush

As a lifelong fan of the Friends sitcom, the Outer Banks star was delighted to discover Aniston was active on social media. “I cried. Oh, I cried,” Stokes explained to Extra when asked about finding Aniston’s profile. “I just sat there like a really cheese rom-com. [I] looked at my phone, and tears started welling up.”

Stokes recalled growing up watching the series. “My mom used to play Friends when I was younger. I think it was just kind of subconsciously shoved in my brain from a young age to see her and be like ‘Oh, yeah…'” Stokes said, justifying his celebrity crush. “We could sit here and talk about this for hours,” he went on.

Stokes mentioned receiving direct messages from Outer Banks fans in various languages, but he’s more focused on connecting with Aniston. His plan to gain her attention? Direct messages on Instagram. “I haven’t DMed her yet. I’ve thought about it, but I’m gonna shoot my shot eventually.”

Instagram led fans to think Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline were dating

Despite Stokes’ crush on Aniston, many fans thought he was dating his co-star Madelyn Cline. Once again, Instagram played a role in convincing fans of their relationship status.

Stokes made a comment on a photo of Cline that read: “Heart rate… decreasing.. help.” Almost immediately, fans began to speculate that the two were more than friends. Stokes stepped in to provide fans with clarity, adding the comment: “Man, I really stirred the pot here, didn’t I?”

The two quarantining together didn’t help — fans thought their roommate status would lead to something, but neither star has spoken out about it. For now, fans will have to wait and see if Stokes follows through with his desire to DM Aniston.
