Cheryl Burke Seeks Post-Divorce Dating Advice From Fans in New Podcast ‘Burke in the Game’
Dancing with the Stars pro Cheryl Burke has a new podcast, Burke in the Game, where she’s taking a new approach to relationships. The podcast comes after Burke’s divorce from Matthew Lawrence, allowing her to talk through the process and seek dating advice. Cheryl Burke and Matthew Lawrence are no longer married
Burke first met the Boy Meets World actor in 2007 when his brother, Joey Lawrence, was a competitor on Dancing with the Stars. They started dating but broke up because of Burke’s drinking habits. Burke and Lawrence rekindled their romance in 2016 and got married over two years later on May 23, 2019. Then, on Feb. 18, 2022, Burke filed for divorce at a Los Angeles courthouse (via TMZ).
“I gave it a shot — we both did,” Burke admitted in “Take These Burken Wings,” the premiere episode of her podcast. “Divorce isn’t something that I am proud of by any means, especially coming from a divorced family. I guess I do blame myself. … It has been a lot to swallow.”
Burke is not ready to date at this time but still wants to make changes within herself to take that step in the future. She’s hopeful this podcast will help.
During the first episode, Burke also mentioned the purpose of the podcast isn’t to “badmouth or gossip about her divorce.” Instead, she wants to “move forward and hopefully do so with the support from listeners and learn new things along the way.”
‘DWTS’ pro wants dating and relationship advice from fans and experts alike
The iHeartRadio podcast allows the Dancing with the Stars pro to “surrender control to [listeners].” Burke’s podcast guests will include therapy, life and love coaching, and conversations with the experts. The show’s description reads: “Eventually, she’ll let you decide when she’s ready to date, who, she should date, where she should go, what she should do … ALL OF IT IS UP TO YOU!”
“I’ve learned a lot about me,” Burke said of her divorce in the podcast’s first episode. “I’m proud of myself for being able to evolve and kind of see clearly what I want.”
Cheryl Burke’s sobriety was the subject of a previous podcast
In 2020, Burke joined Backstreet Boy AJ McLean and Rene Elizondo on Pretty Messed Up, a podcast focused on recovery and sobriety. At the time, Burke and McLean were partners in season 29 of Dancing with the Stars. In addition to talking about recovery, they would share behind-the-scenes stories about the competition with listeners.
The Pretty Messed Up podcast started during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and continued through December 2021. However, McLean’s Backstreet Boys residency came calling and made it challenging to continue recording. Burke was hosting episodes solo for a while until the opportunity to do Burke in the Game came along.
