Barbara Niven is saying goodbye to Chesapeake Shores. The actor, who has played Megan O’Brien on the Hallmark Channel series since 2016, took to social media to reflect on her time on the show and thank fans for their support. She also promised that the upcoming final season – which will air sometime this summer – will be “the best yet.”
Barbara Niven says it’s ‘so hard’ to say goodbye to ‘Chesapeake Shores’
Hallmark announced earlier this year that Chesapeake Shores Season 6 would be the last for the show. While a premiere date for the new episodes hasn’t been announced, the network said they would air sometime in the summer of 2022. But for the show’s cast, the time has already come to bid their characters farewell.
Niven recently took to Instagram to share that she had finished filming her final scenes for the show, which is based on a series of books by Sherryl Woods.
“And that’s a wrap for me and for Megan O’Brien on Chesapeake Shores. I shot my last scenes today,” she wrote in the June 24 post.
“It’s so hard to say goodbye to this character, this family, and to all of you who have watched and made it possible for these past six years of filming,” she added. “THANK YOU for being part of the O’Brien family.”
The Hallmark Channel actor says the next season will be ‘the best yet’
While Chesapeake Shores may be ending, Niven says the show is going out on a high note.
“This is by far the best season we’ve had yet, and we hope you will love watching it as much as we loved making it,” she wrote.
Chesapeake Shores Season 5 ended on a cliffhanger. Niven’s character was facing a choice about whether to take her dream job in California or embark on a round-the-world trip with her ex-husband Mick (Treat Williams). Meanwhile, Megan’s daughter Abby (Meghan Ory) was weighing whether to pursue a romance with eccentric billionaire Evan Kincaid (Robert Buckley). But the most dramatic moment came just before the credits rolled, as Connor O’Brien (Andrew Walker) collapsed from an apparent heart attack, leaving his fate uncertain.
Other ‘Chesapeake Shores’ cast members celebrate the show
Niven isn’t the only Chesapeake Shores cast member reflecting on the show’s end. Jessica Sipos, who plays Sarah, and Williams both posted on Instagram about a celebratory dinner for the show’s cast and writers.
“This night. These people. This sunset. What a way to wrap season six…” Sipos wrote.
“Thank you Dan Paulson for a lovely last supper for cast and writers. Onward,” Williams captioned his photo.
Williams has also been celebrating the Chesapeake Shores crew in a series of Instagram posts. Meanwhile, Buckley shared a behind-the-scenes snap of the male cast members decked out in suits on his Instagram.
“Ran into some friends at the Men’s Warehouse callback,” he jokingly captioned the photo.
