The Chicago trilogy has been keeping fans glued to their TVs as the three separate shows crisscross through the Windy City and bring riveting views of the first responders of all stripes who work there. Fans are especially excited when the shows share crossovers with one another, which is frequently. Part of what makes the series so beloved is definitely the array of complex and interesting characters.

On Chicago Fireone of those characters is Lieutenant Herrmann, and fans think it’s high time he gets something he’s earned.

Chicago Fire explores Chicago’s firefighters

Chicago Fire focuses on the lives of the firefighters and rescue squad members in Chicago. While actual firefighters have said the scenes where things are aflame aren’t entirely accurate, the drama of the show certainly feels real. It also makes for a lot of heart-pounding action scenes that keep fans on the edge of their seats. The action is shot in a real Chicago firehouse, and the actors have to carry around the actual — and heavy — gear as they film.

The show consists of plenty of physical scenes. Whether the characters are jumping off a bridge to make a daring rescue or leaping across flames in an attempt to put out the fire, the show delivers excellent moments of adrenaline rushes. Some of the actors even get caught up in the moments and try to convince the show creators to let them do their own stunts. It’s clear that this show has a dedicated cast who has really committed to their characters and bringing them to life on the screen.

Lieutenant Herrmann is a fan favorite

There are plenty of great characters on the show, and Lieutenant Christopher Herrmann is definitely among the fan favorites. Herrmann is portrayed by actor David Eigenberg, and he has been on the show since its beginning. His character has faced many ups and downs. In fact, season 1 showed Herrmann and his wife Cindy having to move in with Cindy’s parents because of a foreclosure. By the end of the season, they have added another child to become a family of five.

Hermann’s devotion to his family and sense of his responsibility to them is a major part of his character development. He often plays a fatherly role for the younger firefighters under his instruction, doling out device with signature gruffness. A representative one-liner is when Herrmann told a younger rescuer, “It’s my job as an old firefighter to teach the young firefighters how to become old ones.”

Fans think Lieutenant Herrmann deserves an office

Herrmann is known for wearing his emotions on his sleeve and for being in the thick of the drama when things go down. He’s outspoken and clear about what needs to be done whether people like it or not. That’s a rough combination, and it often leaves the character storming around his co-workers when there’s something on his mind. In a Twitter thread showcasing one of Herrmann’s emotionally-packed stomp offs, fans noted that life would be easier for the Lieutenant if he had his own office.

One fan wrote that “he deffo deserves an office” before adding “bless his heart” for good measure. Another chimed in, “I still think he should get his own office.” After all, Herrmann is facing tough decisions in one of the most high-pressure positions around. Doesn’t the man deserve a little space to think his thoughts and process his options? Considering that we’re eight seasons into the show and Herrmann is still without an office to call his own, things aren’t looking good for the Lieutenant’s privacy, but fans can still hold out hope.
