Fans hoped to see Stella Kidd in Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 9, the fall season finale. Due to her Girls on Fire program that took her out of Chicago, she was largely absent from the season. But Kelly Severide and Chief Wallace Boden talked about her lack of communication in episode 9. Ultimately, due to Kidd’s absence, Boden decided to give Matt Casey’s lieutenant position to Jason Pelham.

“Casey told Stella he was leaving,” Severide told Boden. “I told her there was this floater lieutenant who was impressing everyone. It’s like she didn’t hear me. She was so gung-ho about expanding Girls on Fire that everything seemed to go in one ear and out the other.”

It sounds like Kidd might still have interest in taking over as lieutenant, though. Actor Miranda Rae Mayo told CinemaBlend her character still has lieutenant aspirations for Firehouse 51.

The Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 10 preview shows Kelly Severide asking Stella Kidd if she’s dating

The preview for Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 10 shows Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide having a difficult conversation. It seems to show them speaking right where episode 9 left off. At the end of episode 9, Kidd and Severide reunited once she unexpectedly returned to Chicago.

Severide and Kidd are sitting together on a couch during their tense interaction. “You just stopped calling me back,” Severide says to Kidd in a frustrated tone during the preview. “You just left.”

Kidd appears to nod at what Severide tells her. “I screwed up,” she tells him. “I panicked because I don’t need to lock my future down just yet.”

“Were you with someone else?” Severide asks. The preview then shows a sustained silence between Severide and Kidd. This might mean their engagement and relationship might not survive with her return to the firehouse. Additionally, with Kidd’s silence in the preview, perhaps she did establish a romantic connection with someone new.

‘Chicago Fire’ Season 10 Fall Finale: Stella Kidd’s Return Elicits an Uncomfortable Reaction From Kelly Severide

The Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide interaction fans will see in Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 10 shows their rocky relationship. But does it also indicate Stella Kidd could lead Chicago Fire for good? While Kidd and Severide may not last forever, it seems Kidd will remain at the firehouse for the foreseeable future.

CinemaBlend asked Mayo if she’s permanently back on the show with her character — and she responded, “Hell yeah!”

“No, she’s just back in action,” Mayo reassured. “That’s Stella.”

Mayo also noted Matt Casey’s departure might’ve made Kidd leaving Chicago even more difficult for Severide, so he feels vulnerable with her returning, too. We’ll have to wait and see how their relationship continues to play out. But it seems they both will remain on the show for the rest of the season.

Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 10 airs Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at 9 p.m. EST on NBC.
