‘Chicago Fire’ Season 10: Do Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide Break Up During the Holiday Episode?

Stella Kidd is slated to return in the 'Chicago Fire' Season 10 holiday special, but could the episode spell doom for her relationship with Kelly Severide? Here's what we know about what's happening with the couple going into the fall season finale.

Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 9 is slated to be the fall season finale episode — and it’s also the holiday special for the season. Currently, fans have a number of unanswered questions when it comes to Chicago Fire. And they want to know if Stella Kidd is returning for episode 9 to reunite with fiancé Kelly Severide. So, what happens with their relationship? And could they possibly break up? Here are the clues that suggest they don’t stay together.

‘Chicago Fire’ Season 10 Episode 9 features plenty of holiday cheer, as it’s the special holiday episode

NBC’s One Chicago shows went on a break starting after the episodes that aired on Nov. 10, 2021 — and fans have been anxiously awaiting more information on Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 9. According to showrunner Derek Haas, the fall season finale will look different for Fire than it does for Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med, as Chicago Fire gets a holiday special.

“So we thought, ‘Hmm, maybe we could do a holiday episode’ — and I wrote it,” Haas told TV Line about a potential holiday special. “… For the first time in years, as long as I can remember, we’re doing a holiday episode. Episode 9 is going to make the Hallmark Channel jealous of our holiday episode.”

So far in the season, fans have been missing Stella Kidd. She went to Boston to work on her Girls on Fire program, and it may put a strain on her relationship with Kelly Severide. Fans hope Kidd will return in the holiday special.

So, what happens with Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide in the Chicago Fire Season 10 fall finale? Is Stella Kidd leaving Chicago Fire completely for Girls on Fire? Haas told TVLine fans will see Kidd before the end of 2021, so she must make an appearance in the holiday special. But Severide and Kidd may not be destined to be together forever. Severide already expressed worries about their relationship this season.

“I know Girls on Fire really means a lot to her, it’s just we’ve never had this much distance between us,” Severide told Christopher Herrmann in Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 8, TV Insider notes. “I don’t know what’s going on with her, or where we’re going to be when she does come back.”

According to One Chicago Center, Kidd also isn’t in any of the fall season finale photos. This could indicate she doesn’t have a huge role in the holiday episode.

Additionally, other women in Severide’s life could potentially complicate his relationship with Kidd. Wendy Seager, the Lieutenant for the Office of Fire Investigation, and Severide have seemed to lightly flirt before — and with Kidd gone, who knows where their relationship could end up.

When can fans watch the Chicago Fire season finale in 2021? Chicago Fire Season 10 Episode 9 airs Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, at 9 p.m. EST. The other NBC One Chicago shows also return for their finales on the same date. Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 9 airs at 10 p.m. EST, and Chicago Med Season 7 Episode 9 airs at 8 p.m. EST.

Chicago P.D. will not have a holiday special this year. Chicago Med‘s episode may touch on a few holiday themes, but it seems like Chicago Fire is the only 2021 fall season finale going for a strict holiday theme. After Dec. 8, all three One Chicago shows go on hiatus again until January 2022.
