‘Chicago Med’: Who Is Dr. Asher and Why Does She Return in Season 7?
Chicago Med Season 7 Episode 16 brought back Dr. Hannah Asher, who probably looked familiar for many fans of the show. Dr. Asher was an obstetrician-gynecologist at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center in seasons 5 and 6. She was also romantically involved with Dr. Will Halstead. Now Asher is back and fans may need a refresher of her time at the hospital and relationship with Halstead.
Who is Dr. Asher in ‘Chicago Med’?
Dr. Asher was first introduced to Chicago Med in season 5. She is an obstetrician-gynecologist at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center with a drug addiction that she is mostly able to hide from her coworkers. However, Will Halstead discovers the truth while volunteering at a safe injection site. He is initially upset but the two later come to an understanding and Halstead tries to help her with her drug issues.
The pair become romantically involved, eventually moving in together. However, in Chicago Med Season 6 Asher relapses and is brought to the ER for an overdose. Halstead tells Asher he loves her before she goes into surgery and is relieved when she survives the incident. After Asher recovers, she decides to leave Chicago to enter a rehab facility. She asks Halstead to come with her but he turns down her request.
Jessy Schram returns to her role as Dr. Asher in ‘Chicago Med’ Season 7
Dr. Asher made an appearance at the end of Chicago Med Season 7 Episode 16. Sharon Goodwin and Dean Archer meet Asher at dinner. Before she arrives, Goodwin remarks that Asher just completed an ED Fellowship at LA County. She also tells Archer that Gaffney Chicago Medical Center is implementing an emergency OBGYN service in the ED and they need someone with experience to get it off the ground.
It is also revealed that Goodwin kept in contact with Asher while she was in rehab. Archer initially expresses doubts about bringing Asher back. However, Asher informs him that she is almost two years sober and committed to staying clean. Goodwin cheerfully welcomes her back.
Dr. Asher is portrayed by 36-year-old actor Jessy Schram. Schram’s success in the entertainment industry began with her booking numerous commercials, television work, and other jobs as a child model, according to IMDb. In one of her earliest TV show roles, she portrayed Hannah Griffith in Veronica Mars. Since then Schram has appeared in shows such as Mad Men, Nashville, Once Upon a Time, and Falling Skies.
Is Dr. Asher replacing Dr. Stevie Hammer?
It’s worth noting that Dr. Stevie Hammer has been absent from the last couple of episodes of Chicago Med. Hammer was going through a divorce, but she began to rekindle things with her husband who lives in Michigan. Kristen Hager is a newcomer on Chicago Med, so it would be surprising if she left the show so soon.
Chicago Med has teased a potential love interest between Hammer and Halstead, but there might not be any room for that with Asher returning. Hager has not publicly discussed her future with the show, so it’s unclear at the moment if she will return.
