Fans love a good medical drama, and Chicago Med brings in tons of viewers every season. Recently, the show concluded with season 6, and viewers want to know what’s going on with season 7. So, is the show renewed? Here’s what we know regarding the future of the series, as well as who might return from the Chicago Med cast for the next season.

Is ‘Chicago Med’ renewed for season 7?

NBC’s Chicago Med began in November 2015, and it’s been going strong ever since. The show follows doctors and nurses at the Gaffney Chicago Medical Center, and it frequently has crossover with Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. for a fully immersive viewing experience.

Chicago Med Season 6 ended in May 2021. The season totaled 16 episodes and began in November 2020.

As far as season 7 is concerned, it seems fans can get excited for the future of the series, as NBC plans on bringing it back. FanSided reports NBC gave Chicago Med a multi-year renewal, ensuring it will return for another few seasons.

As for when it will return, we’re not yet sure. Historically, the show has returned either in September or November. FanSided notes NBC confirmed Chicago Med will return for its fall lineup, though, and it will kick off the One Chicago shows on Wednesday nights once again. The publication predicts the show will premiere on Sept. 29, 2021.

Who will be part of the ‘Chicago Med’ cast for season 7?

With the series reportedly returning for season 7, who will come back in the Chicago Med cast? It looks like the new season will miss a few series regulars. Deadline reports Yaya DaCosta and Torrey DeVitto will depart after season 6 ends. DaCosta played emergency department nurse April Sexton, and DeVitto played pediatric emergency physician Dr. Natalie Manning.

As for why these two called it quits, it seems their contracts for the show were up at the end of season 6, forcing them to make some decisions regarding where they wanted to go with their careers. DeVitto is reportedly joining the cast of Skelly, and DaCosta lined up a role on Our Kind of People.

So, who from the rest of the Chicago Med cast remains? Looper notes Nick Gehlfuss will likely return as Dr. Will Halstead, Brian Tee will come back as Dr. Ethan Choi, S. Epatha Merkerson remains as Sharon Goodwin, Oliver Platt will return as Dr. Daniel Charles, Marlyne Barrett will come back as Maggie Lockwood, and Dominic Rains, who joined in season 5, will likely return as Dr. Crockett Marcel.

Will Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire also return along with Chicago Med? Fans can rejoice, as all of the One Chicago shows received renewals. Decider reports NBC renewed Chicago Fire for a ninth, 10th, and 11th season in 2020. Chicago P.D. also got the go-ahead for an eighth, ninth, and 10th season.

If Med does return in September 2021, there’s a good chance all three shows will come back at that time. With the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, production did stall on the shows, though, so this could throw off the typical schedule. But it looks like fans are hopeful the franchise will continue as planned for years to come. As for the Chicago Med cast and casts of the other shows, we’re sure they’re happy to continue working on their shows as well.
