‘Chicago Med’ Season 7 Predictions: 3 Cast Members Most Likely to Leave in 2022
Chicago Med Season 7 will return with new episodes in late February, after the Winter Olympics end. This season has already had a pretty significant casting shake-up. One Chicago fan knows that it’s common for characters to come and go and they can’t help but wonder who might be next to leave the show. These are our top three guesses for 2022.
Who from the ‘Chicago Med’ Season 7 cast will leave in 2022? Sharon Goodwin’s health could be in jeopardy
Chicago Med fans love S. Epatha Merkerson’s character Sharon Goodwin, but she does seem like one of the most likely characters to leave in season 7. In the fall finale, Goodwin reported the Vascom scandal to the FBI, which put her at odds with some of the higher-ups at the hospital.
Goodwin’s diabetes has also been an important part of the show. After reporting the Vascom scandal, a brief scene in Chicago Med Season 7 shows Goodwin noting her glucose levels are high. In an interview with TV Insider, executive producer Diane Frolov teased that Goodwin’s diabetes will “continue to be a problem for her” this year.
“And it’s something we are going to play out in the latter half of the season,” Frolov added. Perhaps health issues could cause Goodwin to step down from her position at the hospital.
Dr. Ethan Choi is still recovering from spinal fusion surgery
Dr. Ethan Choi was shot and nearly killed in Chicago Med Season 6. The road to recovery for this character has been long and it’s not over yet. Fans got to check in with Choi in Chicago Med Season 7 Episode 12 after his spinal fusion surgery. Choi seems better, but he is still walking with a cane, and tragically, his father died in the same episode.
Showrunner Diane Frolov told TV Insider that Choi won’t return permanently to the show until episode 18. That’s near the end of the season, so it’s hard not to wonder if Brian Tee’s character is slowly being phased out of the show.
Frolov also teased that Choi’s near-death experience “changed” him. “It’s been a very traumatic event for him to be shot like this and he’s been reevaluating himself because of it,” the executive producer stated.
Could Vanessa Taylor get fired in ‘Chicago Med’ Season 7?
Asjha Cooper joined the cast of Chicago Med as Vanessa Taylor in season 6. Vanessa is the biological daughter of charge nurse Maggie Lockwood. Vanessa is only a recurring character, and there are some pretty logical reasons her character could be written out of the show.
Let’s not forget that in Chicago Med Season 7, Vanessa begged Maggie to help her pass a drug test. Vanessa was sure to fail because she had been taking Adderall, but Maggie agreed to help her daughter out.
In the fall finale, Vanessa finally told her coworkers Maggie is her biological mother. Afterward, Maggie was investigated by the hospital higher-ups, and it seems she is suspected of using nepotism to get Vanessa a job at the hospital.
If word ever gets out about the drug test Vanessa and Maggie’s jobs will both be on the line. However, it’s possible that Vanessa would take the fall to protect her mother’s job.
Chicago Med airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
