‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9 introduced a new recruit
Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 18 introduced Dante Torres, played by Benjamin Levy Aguilar. Trudy Platt warns Halstead that he either has the makings of a good cop or a “total psycho.” To be fair, Torres is extremely hard to pin down with his one-word answers to Halstead’s questions. Torres helps Halstead catch a perpetrator, but disobeys his orders to stay in the car.
Still, Torres is obviously skilled and intelligent. He gets the perp to flip on his supplier in a surprisingly short amount of time. However, Hank Voight gets word that a gang member may have infiltrated the police force, and Halstead grows suspicious of Torres. He becomes even leerier when he learns that Torres put his stepfather in a wheelchair.
Later, Halstead learns the truth. Torres is not a bad guy or a traitor. He beat his stepfather because he was abusing his mother. Torres called the police six times before taking action against his mother’s abuser. The police never showed up to help him. That’s why he wants to be a cop.
Many ‘Chicago P.D.’ fans hope Torres will stick around
For the most part, fans seem to be enjoying Torres’ role in Chicago P.D. Quite a few fans hope that he will stick around, possibly even becoming a series regular at some point. “Please tell me Torres becomes a regular and joins Intelligence please I am begging,” one fan wrote on Reddit.
Another fan wrote, “Cool episode. Nice to see one focused more outside the time than inside. Refreshing. I hope Torres sticks around.” Torres isn’t present in the promo video or synopsis for Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 19, but that doesn’t mean he won’t make an appearance.
It might be interesting to see Halstead in a mentorship role after all the drama that went down with Roy Walton earlier in the season. “Great to see a Jay-centric episode that doesn’t just have him playing catch-up against Voight and Upton,” a Reddit user said.
They continued, “Torres is fantastic and the two of them together have great chemistry. Really hope they make Benjamin Levy Aguilar a series regular and develop his relationship with Jay into a proper mentor-mentee situation.”
