The Chicago P.D. Season 9 finale centered on Anna Avalos and Hank Voight while occasionally dipping into Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton’s dynamic. Anna served as an informant for Voight and the rest of the Intelligence Unit. TVLine notes the team was still trying to bring down gangster Javier Escano, but early on in the episode, Anna stabbed Escano. Voight attempted to save Anna, as the rest of the unit didn’t know who stabbed Escano immediately except for him, but to no avail. Eventually, Anna turned a gun on Voight, and Hailey Upton and Jay Halstead shot Anna dead.

With all of the attention on the intense Escano case, what happened to Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess? Unfortunately, fans hoping to get some resolution after Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 20 were left in the dark. Ruzek previously told Burgess he planned on purchasing his father’s home to gift to Burgess and Burgess’s daughter, Makayla. What will become of Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess after the Chicago P.D. Season 9 finale? Ruzek actor Patrick John Flueger spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the couple. He noted he doesn’t know what’s coming next, but fans will likely get answers in Chicago P.D. Season 10.

“There are smatterings of conversation here and there, but I won’t lie to you, you’re going to have to wait until next season,” Flueger said. “I’m going to have to wait until next season! They don’t tell us anything!”

As for Ruzek’s intentions from episode 20, Flueger noted Ruzek “meant what he said” to Burgess about the house situation. “I love that speech that they wrote for him talking about the memories, and there is some resolve in knowing that came from the heart,” the actor explained. “I think he meant what he said: He’s not trying to move in, he’s legitimately trying to provide and put something out there that he thinks would be really good for Makayla as she grows up.”

There’s good news for fans wanting more One Chicago content after the Chicago P.D. Season 9 finale. Chicago P.D. Season 10 — as well as Chicago Fire Season 11 and Chicago Med Season 8 — are officially in the works.

Newsweek reports all three One Chicago shows received renewals for the 2022-2023 TV season in February 2020. It’s unclear what will happen with the franchise after 2023. NBC hasn’t made any current moves to extend the contracts, so it’s possible the next seasons of the show will be their last.
