Fans keeping up with Chicago P.D. Season 9 are deep into the current storylines surrounding Kim Burgess, Kevin Atwater, Hailey Upton, Adam Ruzek, Jay Halstead, and, of course, Hank Voight. But there are certain Chicago P.D. cast members fans would love to see again, and they haven’t shown up so far in the new season. Will Cleveland Berto’s character, Andre Cooper, resurface?
‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9 continues to center on Kim Burgess’s recovery and Hailey Upton’s secrets
During the Chicago P.D. Season 8 finale, we saw Kim Burgess get shot twice by Roy before making it to the hospital barely alive. The new season has a heavy focus on Kim’s recovery and trauma surrounding the incident, of course. By Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 2, Kim is already back in the saddle. But she has plenty of demons she’s still fighting as she gets back to work.
As for Hailey Upton, she and Jay Halstead got engaged at the beginning of the season. The two Chicago P.D. cast members have a lot of love for each other, but fans suspect they could be doomed, as Hailey hasn’t told Jay she and Hank Voight killed Roy and did away with his body.
When it comes to Kevin Atwater, it seems we’ll also see his love life blossom as the season moves forward.
Is Cleveland Berto still on ‘Chicago P.D.’?
Fans want to know if Cleveland Berto’s Chicago P.D. stint is over completely or if he’ll return. Berto played Andre Cooper in the Chicago P.D. cast in season 8, though his character’s name was originally Jalen Walker. In the show, he played a “golden boy” who had an opportunity to work on Wall Street but turned it down for a spot in the police department’s 21st District Intelligence Unit. His character was nothing like the rough-and-tough Hank Voight, and fans seemed very receptive to him joining the cast.
So, will Cleveland Berto rejoin the Chicago P.D. Season 9 cast? So far, it doesn’t look like there’s any indication fans will see him in the new season. While it looked like he may become a series regular in season 8, he only appeared in three episodes. And it seems the story has shifted away from his involvement, though he certainly brought a new voice and perspective to the show.
Hank Voight actor Jason Beghe talked about Cleveland Berto joining the ‘Chicago P.D.’ cast
Hank Voight actor Jason Beghe also talked about Berto’s brief role. It seems the series regular really enjoyed acting alongside Berto — but his comments made it sound as if Berto won’t return.
“He did a fantastic job on a three-episode arc,” Beghe told Give Me My Remote. “He informed the team in a way — he played more of a Gen-Z kind of cop, and a very, highly ethical … there’s a negative connotation to the word, but I’m going to use it without any of that: He’s woke and aware. And he helped us tell a story that needs to be told. And he did a fantastic job and we all miss him; he is terrific.”
Chicago P.D. Season 9 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
