‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9: Details Fans Need to Remember Before the Rest of the Season Airs
NBC’s One Chicago shows return on April 6, 2022 — and that means Chicago P.D. Season 9 is coming back with all-new content. Before the season resumes after its latest hiatus, here’s what fans need to remember about everything that happened before Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 17.
Not everyone’s happy about Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton eloping in ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9
Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton had a difficult start in Chicago P.D. Season 9. In the early days of the couple’s engagement, Upton kept a major secret from Halstead. She didn’t tell Halstead that she and Hank Voight were responsible for Roy Walton’s death. Eventually, Halstead figured it out — and though they had several rough patches, they worked through it all and stayed together. Then, they quickly eloped without telling the rest of the unit.
Halstead and Upton didn’t want a big wedding. But not everyone’s happy about their impulsive decision to elope.
“Atwater is aggravated about that,” LaRoyce Hawkins told Parade. “We knew that they were probably going to get married and there were conversations about the wedding. Atwater was supposed to host it. What people don’t know is that Atwater was actually taking classes to be ordained so that he could do the marriage ceremony.”
Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess still have plans to live together
Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess have a long relationship history. Before Chicago P.D. Season 9, they were on again and off again. More recently, they worked together to bring Burgess’s daughter, Makayla, back home after a kidnapping. But they still remain single.
With that said, Ruzek and Burgess had extensive talks about living together for Makayla’s sake. While they remain single, it seems they still plan on going through with their plans to move in together, making their relationship even more convoluted.
Jay Halstead isn’t a fan of informant Anna Avalos
In Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 16 going into episode 17, Hank Voight works closely with informant Anna Avalos. And fans may recall that Jay Halstead isn’t a fan of her.
Season 9 Episode 12 showed Voight reaching out to Avalos when he thought the gang Los Temidos might be involved in a killing. Avalos agreed to go undercover, but it didn’t go well. Later on, Voight asked Halstead for advice. And Halstead questioned Avalos’ motives in the past — though, in this instance, he told Voight to allow her to continue.
Will this hurt Voight in episode 17 now that he continues to work with Avalos?
Kevin Atwater’s last relationship ended because he was dishonest about his profession
Kevin Atwater developed a relationship with a woman named Celeste in Chicago P.D. Season 9. While their relationship brought Atwater a lot of joy, it didn’t end well. Atwater didn’t tell Celeste he was a cop due to her outspoken nature against the profession. When he finally came clean, they broke up due to his lie.
This puts Atwater in an interesting position where he continues to question his job and his relationships. Will he continue as a cop as the season finale approaches, or will Kevin Atwater leave Chicago P.D.?
Kim Burgess doesn’t know Hailey Upton and Hank Voight killed Roy Walton before ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9
Finally, fans should remember that Kim Burgess never learned about Roy Walton’s death. Hailey Upton and Hank Voight killed Walton after he shot Burgess twice, and the only other person in the unit to learn the truth was Jay Halstead. While the FBI tried to blackmail Halstead into ratting out Voight for killing Walton, it didn’t work.
So far, Burgess still has no idea about the truth. And the truth could change everything.
Chicago P.D. Season 9 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
