The Chicago P.D. new season in 2021 is already leaving fans with more questions than answers. During the Chicago P.D. Is Kim Burgess going to die? She was shot twice leading up to the ‘Chicago P.D.’ new season in 2021
So far, Kim Burgess is still on Chicago P.D. During the Chicago P.D. Season 9 premiere, fans see her in the hospital, as she was rescued during the season 8 finale after getting shot twice in the stomach by Roy. So, is Kim Burgess going to die? While she did undergo surgery and seemed awake in the premiere, the doctor noted she has a long way to go before she’s OK.
During the season 9 premiere, Adam Ruzek talked to the doctors about Burgess’s chances of survival. “She’s in stable condition at the moment,” the doctor noted, “but she suffered extensive injuries. There’s considerable internal trauma. So, we all will just need to wait ….”
Ruzek then asked what he can expect when Burgess wakes up. “In the event she survives, are we talking about life support?” he asked.
“It’s still too early to tell,” the doctor answered, “but it is a possibility.”
Hailey Upton actor Tracy Spiridakos says Kim Burgess comes back ‘right away’
It looks like Kim Burgess does make it out alive from her ordeal — and she also comes back to work as soon as she’s able. Hailey Upton actor Tracy Spiridakos told TV Insider what happens to Burgess in Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 2.
“She’s back right away,” Spiridakos explains. “We see what her struggles are coming back, I think in the second episode.” She then asks fellow actor Jason Beghe about a possible time jump in episode 2.
“I think mostly in the second episode, she starts to deal with it,” Hank Voight actor Beghe verifies.
Photos from Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 2 show Burgess out of the hospital and seemingly doing well physically — but mentally will certainly be another story. Additionally, a Twitter promo for the episode shows Burgess talking to Ruzek. It seems Ruzek might want Burgess to take things slow, but Voight may push her to get back into the job as to not linger on the past.
Marina Squerciati talked about Kim Burgess returning to work in ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9
Actor Marina Squerciati also talks about Kim Burgess’s recovery in Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 2. Squerciati verifies Burgess leaves the hospital by episode 2. But the character certainly has trouble adapting to her new life.
“I liked that they took the time to make it a real recovery and not a superhero in that she’s really struggling, not just with the physical effects, but the mental effects, which is often, for what I understand, for police so much greater,” Squerciati told TV Insider.
We’re excited to see what happens to Burgess in the new season. The Chicago P.D. Season 9 air date is every Wednesday at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
