‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9: Jay Halstead Actor Hinted Hailey Upton Engagement Will End
In the premiere of Chicago P.D. Season 9, fans saw Jay Halstead accept Hailey Upton’s engagement from the Chicago P.D. Season 8 finale. Hailey Upton and Jay Halstead have had their ups and downs since then, as Halstead grew suspicious of Upton’s behavior after she and Hank Voight secretly killed Kim Burgess’s attacker. So, will Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton get married? Actor Jesse Lee Soffer hinted the two won’t actually last.
Hailey Upton and Jay Halstead get engaged at the start of ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9
In the Chicago P.D. Season 9 premiere, Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton made their engagement official — but Halstead knew something was up with Upton. And Upton’s anxiety over killing Roy, Burgess’s shooter, worsened. While Hank Voight told Upton to relax and forget about the past, Upton had trouble keeping her secret from Halstead. Eventually, Halstead learned the truth of what was going on.
In Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 4, Halstead approached Voight after finding him at a location that correlated with Burgess’s attack. Voight finally told Halstead the truth about Roy’s death. While Halstead didn’t believe Voight at first when Voight said Hailey shot and killed Roy, he eventually realized Voight wasn’t lying. But he still punched Voight after hearing the full explanation.
“Hailey had no choice but to shoot,” Voight explained to Halstead. “She saved my life. That’s what happened. … Jay, you can be mad at me. You can be as angry as you want. But now you know. So, help her.”
Do Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton get married? Actor Jesse Lee Soffer hinted their engagement might end
Now that Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton have to confront the truth regarding what happened to Roy, what’s the fate of their engagement? Do they still decide to get married? It seems Halstead actor Jesse Lee Soffer hinted the engagement might end after all.
One Chicago Center asked actor Soffer if Halstead’s brother, Will, will need help with the Best Man’s speech for the wedding. “I think it’s going to be so bumpy at first, that I don’t foresee Will needing to help Jay with his Best Man’s speech,” Soffer noted. “If Will is involved, then that would mean that everything is going well and is probably running smoothly for Jay because maybe the marriage is really going to happen.”
Additionally, Upton actor Tracy Spiridakos told TV Insider she also doesn’t know if a wedding will happen in Chicago P.D. Season 9. “I’m not sure if there’s going to be an actual wedding this season or if that’ll come later,” she stated.
Will Kim Burgess learn about Hailey Upton and Hank Voight’s secret?
While Jay Halstead knows about Hailey Upton and Hank Voight killing Roy, will Kim Burgess find out? Burgess was shot twice by Roy, and she has lingering mental health effects from the shooting. Realizing Upton and Voight withheld information regarding Roy from her will certainly change her relationship with them. So far, it’s unclear if Burgess will learn the truth. But it seems likely.
Burgess actor Marina Squerciati spoke to HollywoodLife about what would happen if Burgess knew the truth. “I think she’d be really torn because she’s kind of a moral character in a way that maybe Voight isn’t as much or Ruzek character isn’t as much,” she stated. “They’re much more cowboy-y, so I don’t know. I think she’d be relieved but also torn.”
