‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9: Kevin Atwater Has to Make the ‘Right Decisions’ to Keep His Job and Relationship, LaRoyce Hawkins Warns
NBC’s Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 11 will bring Kevin Atwater back into the spotlight. Past episodes showed Atwater getting close to his love interest, Celeste — but he hit a snag in balancing his job and his personal life. Now, actor LaRoyce Hawkins is talking about what’s next for Atwater. And he explains how his character needs to make the “right decisions” to keep everything he loves close to him.
‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9 Episode 11 features Kevin Atwater as the lead
The promo for Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 11 shows Kevin Atwater will take the lead — and it’s a welcome change after fans have seen so much from Hailey Upton, Jay Halstead, Adam Ruzek, and Kim Burgess.
The teaser shows the Intelligence Unit trying to track down a dangerous drug dealer, and they have an informant to help them. Unfortunately, they’re not sure they can trust the informant. And it looks like Atwater takes over as the main guy on the case.
“The boss, that’s who we really want — then we help you,” Atwater tells the informant in the promo. The informant seems to comply.
As the promo goes on, it’s clear the informant may be up to some nefarious tasks, though. Atwater seems to get himself into trouble later in the episode.
Actor LaRoyce Hawkins talked about Kevin Atwater making the ‘right decisions’ moving forward
Aside from Kevin Atwater dealing with the informant in Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 11, we’ll also see the character dealing with more of his personal life. Actor LaRoyce Hawkins spoke to CinemaBlend about Atwater’s “double life.”
“The double life, so to speak, of being a cop during the day and like … a man by night is interesting,” he told the publication. “So, as a storyteller, I’m excited about what we can learn from it.”
Hawkins also mentioned Atwater needs to make the “right decisions” in order to hold on to everything he holds dear, like his job and his personal relationships.
“I think we all kind of want it for him, but Atwater’s got to make the right decisions,” Hawkins noted. “Atwater has to navigate it a certain way in order for us to get what we want for him. … So, it’s like, Atwater’s starting to ask himself the question, you know, ‘Where are we?’ And if you live from where you are, and not from where you want to be, from where you thought you were, you live from an authentic place. I think he’s just being authentic to himself and doing his best, like we all are.”
LaRoyce Hawkins also teased more romance for his character and Celeste
Will fans see more of Celeste in Chicago P.D. Season 9? Kevin Atwater certainly still has her on the brain. And LaRoyce Hawkins teased that fans will get to see more of Atwater’s personal life soon enough.
“He’s looking for a space where he can get peace, where he can feel protected as much as he protects and serves everybody else,” Hawkins told TVLine. “That’s really what he finds in Celeste.”
Hawkins then said fans will “definitely” see some “sweet romantic moments” with Celeste in Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 11. ” … You get to watch Atwater navigate the light a little bit.”
Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 11 airs Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022, at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
