Is Kim Burgess going to die? ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9 teasers show Burgess recovering
In Chicago P.D. Season 8, many fans felt convinced Kim Burgess wouldn’t live through her multiple gunshot wounds. She was shot twice in the stomach and played dead as her attacker took off before crawling to a nearby vehicle and collapsing inside. At the end of the season, she was taken to Chicago Med to hopefully recover — but her condition remained uncertain.
Teasers for Chicago P.D. Season 9 show Burgess in the hospital fighting for her life. A teaser posted to Twitter on Sept. 8, 2021, shows Sergeant Hank Voight, played by Jason Beghe, talking about Burgess. “The only thing that matters is saving her life,” he says.
Additionally, another teaser posted on Sept. 15 shows a Chicago Med worker talking to Adam Ruzek, Burgess’s past flame. “She’s had extensive injuries,” the medical worker tells Ruzek.
To that, Ruzek asks, “Do you think she’s going to make it, or not?”
Actor Marina Squerciati talked about Burgess ‘fighting a darker side of herself’
Fans will have to wait until the Chicago P.D. Season 9 premiere to see exactly what’s going on with Kim Burgess. But actor Marina Squerciati talked about what’s to come for her character. It seems even with Burgess living through the brutal assault, she’ll still have a lot of personal challenges incoming. This is particularly true when it comes to Burgess raising her adopted daughter, Makayla.
“She’s really affected in the beginning,” Squerciati says of Burgess to HELLO!. “Whatever she is suffering though, she’s put a mask on in front of her kid, which is something we all do. We want to show our kids our best selves [because] we want to make them into the best people we can. But she is fighting a darker side of herself and that’s winning.”
Squerciati also teased a potential PTSD diagnosis for Burgess due to everything that occurred in the Chicago P.D. Season 8 finale.
Do Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess get back together? The ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9 cast members have a long history
So, what’s to come for Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess in Chicago P.D. Season 9? The recent teasers show Ruzek in the hospital by Burgess’s side, and he’s certainly concerned for her wellbeing given everything that occurred.
Squerciati talked to TV Insider about Burgess and Ruzek’s relationship during Chicago P.D. Season 8, too — and it seems the actor suspects the two will always sustain some type of romance given their past. “I think there’s always hope for them,” Squerciati said. “They’re the eternal couple. They probably will get married in season 15, but who knows? They can’t seem to get their stuff together.”
We look forward to seeing what’s in store for Burgess and Ruzek in Chicago P.D. Season 9, as Burgess will certainly need to lean on Ruzek to help her recover mentally and physically.
The Chicago P.D. Season 9 premiere date is Sept. 22, 2021, at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
