‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9: Does Samantha Miller Return?
Chicago P.D. Season 9 is coming soon, and fans can’t wait to see the One Chicago shows return to prime-time television. Deputy Superintendent Samantha Miller played a major role in season 8, and she even developed a close relationship with Sergeant Hank Voight. Unfortunately, the end of season 8 spelled tragedy for Miller. So, will we see her as part of the Chicago P.D cast for the new season?
Who plays Superintendent Samantha Miller on ‘Chicago P.D.’?
Chicago P.D. Season 9 will certainly have many of the cast members fans know and love. In season 8, we saw Nicole Ari Parker play Superintendent Samantha Miller. Parker’s character was originally from Atlanta, and she’s quite progressive in her advocation for police reform. Miller clashed with Voight early on, and she also had a difficult relationship with her son, Darrell Miller. Unfortunately, Darrell died at the end of season 8.
Parker discussed the importance of her role as a Chicago P.D. cast addition with The Real Daytime. She explained how powerful it is to play a character advocating for reform at such an important time in real life when discussions regarding police reform are actually happening.
“And I get to play a boss lady, right?” she said. “My character used to be a cop and now she’s deputy superintendent, and she’s head to head with Jason Beghe’s character, Hank. So, it’s a lot of fun.”
Will Samantha Miller return in ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9?
Chicago P.D. Season 9 is coming soon. Does this mean fans will see Samantha Miller return with the Chicago P.D. cast?
So far, it’s unclear. Miller’s son died at the end of season 8, and fans would love to see season 9 pick up with more of this storyline. FanSided reminds us Darrell was involved with dealing cocaine, and he was having trouble paying his dealer. Darrell ends up getting involved in a police operation with Voight, but the whole ordeal is way more than anyone expects. Ultimately, Darrell dies after saving a 14-year-old girl from human trafficking. The season ends tragically for Miller as she mourns her son.
Season 8 ended on a cliffhanger for police officer Kim Burgess. Because so many loose ends have yet to be tied, we’d love to see Miller return. We imagine season 9 will pick up right where season 8 left off.
It seems Parker was set to take part in NBC’s At That Age, too, but Deadline reports the network is not moving forward with the pilot. This might also up the chances of Parker joining Chicago P.D.‘s cast for season 9.
Is Hank Voight joining season 9?
Will fans at least see Hank Voight in Chicago P.D. Season 9? The show wouldn’t be nearly as good without Beghe leading the cast, so we imagine he’ll return. Not only that, but NBC’s Chicago P.D. cast page lists Sergeant Hank Voight as returning.
The page also lists Officer Vanessa Rojas, Officer Adam Ruzek, Officer Kevin Atwater, Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt, Detective Jay Halstead, Detective Hailey Upton, and Officer Kim Burgess as returning characters.
We’re excited to see exactly where season 9 picks up after the cliffhanger finale in season 8. The Chicago P.D. Season 9 premiere date is Sept. 22, 2021, at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
