‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9: Showrunner Hints at ‘Powerful Episodes’ for Kevin Atwater as Episode 11 Features Him as the Lead
NBC’s Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 11 appears to feature Kevin Atwater as the lead, and fans haven’t seen him take on the lead role in an episode in quite some time. The last we saw of Atwater, he was establishing a potential new romance while keeping his job as a cop a secret. But the Chicago P.D. showrunner hinted that Atwater will take part in “powerful episodes” moving forward in the season.
‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9 Episode 11 features Kevin Atwater as the lead
Chicago P.D. Season 9 showcased a few big moments for Kevin Atwater — and it even brought him potential long-lasting romance. It looks like Atwater will lead the way in Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 11, too.
The promo for the episode, titled “Lies,” shows the Intelligence Unit working with an informant to take down a drug dealer. And it looks like Atwater will take the lead on the case.
“The boss, that’s who we really want — then we help you,” Atwater tells the informant, who seems compliant.
Unfortunately, it looks like the unit might get themselves in a sticky situation with their informant. It looks like Atwater might follow the informant to see if the unit can trust him, but in the process, Atwater could put himself in harm’s way.
The official synopsis from NBC also gives a few clues as to what’s to come. “Voight employs his new informant to help solve a tricky drug trafficking case,” the synopsis reads, according to One Chicago Center. “Atwater, who once again struggles to reconcile his personal and professional life, reaches a decision.”
The showrunner hinted at ‘powerful episodes’ ahead for the character
Kevin Atwater fans can expect to see a lot more of him in future Chicago P.D. Season 9 episodes, too. Not only will he get involved in a difficult situation in episode 11, but we’ll certainly hear more about his relationship with Celeste.
“Atwater has some powerful episodes coming up this season,” showrunner Gwen Sigan told TVLine. “We’ll dive once again into his relationship with Celeste, a woman he cares deeply about but who isn’t aware he’s a cop.”
Additionally, Atwater will have to admit he’s a cop to Celeste at some point if he wants to maintain that relationship. “Atwater’s lies put him in a tricky position — both morally and on the job,” the showrunner added. “It’s quite a dilemma for him and also explores some deep territory Atwater’s been dealing with this season — the reasons he felt compelled to lie to Celeste, his relationship to being police, and his identity at large.”
Is Kevin Atwater leaving ‘Chicago P.D.’?
With a few sticky situations coming up for Kevin Atwater, what does it mean for his unit? Is Kevin Atwater leaving Chicago P.D. completely?
It’s possible Atwater will consider leaving it all behind, especially with Celeste in the picture. Atwater’s had trouble with his identity and who he hopes to become in the future. He might decide a future with Celeste is worth leaving the unit for.
Actor LaRoyce Hawkins hasn’t given any indication he plans on leaving the show, though. So far, fans can rest easy, as it seems like Atwater will remain for the rest of the season.
