Chicago P.D. Season 9 spoilers note conflict’s ahead for Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton. Episode 4 begins with Upton unable to sleep, as she continues to have flashbacks about everything that went down with Roy and Hank Voight. Halstead still doesn’t know what’s going on, but he knows Upton’s keeping something from him.
As the episode continues, Upton’s work is affected by her inability to sleep and concentrate. She eventually has a panic attack after she pulls a man into interrogation who attempts suicide. Halstead attempts to address her sleeplessness and general unease while driving with her.
“I know you haven’t been sleeping, but it’s not just that — is it?” Halstead asks Upton. ” … You haven’t been yourself since the night that you proposed to me.”
Then, when Halstead presses further and asks Upton if something happened with her Voight, she denies it.

What’s to come for Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton? Chicago P.D. Season 9 spoilers note Halstead and Voight have a major confrontation toward the end of the episode.
In Chicago P.D. Season 9 Episode 4, Halstead tracks Voight down and finds Voight at the same location he visited on the night of Kim Burgess’s attack. Finally, Voight cracks and tells Halstead everything that happened. He then explains how Upton killed Roy, a fact Halstead initially tries to deny. At the end of their confrontation, Halstead punches Voight in the mouth before heading home.
The episode concludes with a haunting image of Halstead arriving home. Upton’s in bed, but she jolts awake and sees Halstead looking disappointed, fearful, and angry in the doorway. In response, Upton starts to sit up in bed and returns a look of worry. Upton clearly knows what’s coming — and the fallout could be huge.
Is Halstead and Upton’s relationship doomed from this point forward? Tracy Spiridakos told HollywoodLife the couple’s relationship will “absolutely” become affected by Roy’s death. “That dynamic is affected for sure,” she shared. And with zero known plans for a Halstead/Upton wedding, some fans may suspect they’ll break off the engagement.
