Fans remained divided on the ultimate question following Chicago P.D. Season 8: Is Hank Voight a dirty cop? Voight’s gotten into plenty of trouble in the past. Voight doesn’t kill Roy, though. Upton catches up with Voight and Roy and convinces Voight not to do anything too risky, as he could lose his badge or go to jail as a result. Unfortunately, just as Voight lets up on Roy, Roy goes for Voight’s gun — and Upton shoots Roy, killing him. Voight then burns the body, and the two decide to keep it all a secret from the others.
Now, Chicago P.D. Season 9 spoilers indicate Upton and Voight will continue to grapple with what occurred last season. The season 9 premiere showed Upton struggling to keep her composure.
‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9 spoilers: ‘Tension’ is building between the characters
Chicago P.D. Season 9 spoilers are starting to suggest Hank Voight and Hailey Upton are in way over their heads with their decision to conceal Roy’s death. While Voight continues to tell Upton to remain calm, Upton’s already made bold moves in the wake of her grief, like proposing to Jay Halstead. Now, Upton actor Tracy Spiridakos is talking about what fans can expect from Voight and Upton moving forward.
“There’s definitely tension, that’s for sure,” Spiridakos told TV Insider. “And then Halstead starts to see that there’s some tension there and starts to think, why?”
Voight actor Jason Beghe also told TV Insider that the situation is “out of his hands,” and the best Voight can do is continue to support Upton however he can. “But he’s also an extremely resourceful person, and if something happens, then he’s capable of making adjustments,” Beghe said. “Let’s face it, this is a guy who was put in prison for taking out a hit on a Chicago firefighter. Then he ended up finding a way, not only out of prison, but leading the most elite unit in Chicago. So he’s a resourceful guy.”
Hailey Upton and Jay Halstead’s relationship will likely be affected
In the premiere of season 9, Jay Halstead answers Hailey Upton’s marriage proposal. He says yes, and he gets down on one knee at the end of the episode, as he states he’s “old fashioned.” But what will happen to Upton and Halstead when Halstead learns the truth about Roy’s death?
Spiridakos gave more insights to TV Insider. “The guilt of it all and keeping it a secret from Burgess, keeping it a secret from Halstead, is a struggle and we see her kind of unravel throughout — we’re only on episode 5 so far, but from what I understand, we see that struggle continue for her for a while,” she adds about Upton.
More Chicago P.D. Season 9 spoilers will definitely come as we continue to watch the struggle between Upton, Voight, and Halstead. Chicago P.D. Season 9 airs every Wednesday at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
