Upton dealt with crushing guilt over killing Roy Walton in ‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 9

At the end of season 8, Hailey Upton shot Roy Walton, the man who nearly killed Kim Burgess. Hank Voight told Upton to go home while he cleaned up the mess. Voight burned Roy’s body and buried him, but their secret didn’t stay hidden forever. Upton suffered terrible guilt over killing Roy. She seemed close to a breakdown when Agent North began digging into Roy’s disappearance.

North discovered Roy’s body and used the evidence to try to convince Jay Halstead to turn on Voight. Luckily Halstead and Voight were able to get North to drop the investigation. They discovered that North’s brother is a drug addict who he had bailed out of jail multiple times. At the end of the fall finale, Upton and Halstead finally get married.

Hailey Upton will deal with a brutal car accident when the show returns

Upton went through a difficult time in Chicago P.D. Season 9, but she now seems back to her normal self. She has somewhat taken a backseat in the episodes following the fall finale. However, it won’t stay that way for long.

Chicago P.D. Season 9 will be on hiatus for the Winter Olympics. The show will return with episode 13, “Still Water,” on Feb. 23. TV Line teased what will happen in this episode. “Upton while out for a jog witnesses a horrible car crash and risks her own life to save the passengers,” the outlet wrote. “Then, after learning more about the victims, the team must track down the man responsible for the brutal crash.”

How is married life treating Upton and Halstead?

Fans are also dying to see how married life is treating Halstead and Upton. The pair got married privately in the fall finale, but the series hasn’t shown much of their life outside of work since then. Showrunner Gwen Sigan teased to TV Line some of the issues the newlywed couple will face.

“The truth about them, and any relationship, is that the ring doesn’t take away any complications/issues that are already there. These two have always been complicated — very much in love but also very different people. They each have flaws of their own, and we will continue to explore them.”

Chicago P.D. Season 9 airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
