‘Chicago P.D.’: The First Case of the Season Will Be a Dark One
Chicago P.D. wrapped things up hurriedly last season, leaving fans with plenty of cliffhangers. The show had to finish production quickly due to the surge in COVID-19 numbers.
However, fans don’t have to wait for their questions to get answered. Season 8 is set to premiere in a few days.
The new season is set to address various pivotal societal issues such as police brutality, racism in the workplace, and gun violence. However, the showrunners have hinted that fans should gear up for a dark and twisted first episode as it will address some dark issues.
Chicago P.D. follows the daily activities of the Chicago police
Chicago P.D. is a police procedural series created by Dick Wolfe. The series is an installment of the One Chicago franchise and sometimes involves crossovers from the rest of the series’ in the One Chicago universe.
The show focuses on the 21st District proceedings that have the patrol officers and the Intelligence Unit. Detective Sergeant Hank Voight leads the department’s Intelligence Unit, and he goes to extreme lengths to clean up the streets.
The Intelligence Unit also comprises Detectives Kim Burgess, Kevin Atwater, Adam Ruzek, and Jay Halstead. Following Detective Rojas’s departure from the show, fans are waiting to see whether the Intelligence Unit will find her replacement or slot will remain open for Rojas’s possible return.
Chicago P.D.’s season 7 took a different finale ending
Most shows usually wrap their season up with a happy ever after. For Chicago P.D., season 7’s hurried ending only served to push the show’s fans to the edge of their seats, with many of their question being left unanswered.
For starters, Kim discovers she is pregnant. She at first contemplates what to do and, at one point, thinks of getting rid of it. She eventually decides to keep the baby, but in the end, she miscarries while undercover investigating a sex trafficking ring.
On the other hand, Halstead and Atwater were undercover, but tensions rose when the two officers discover that they are undercover with officers from other precincts. Atwater gets paired with Detective Doyle who racially profiled him.
Doyle does the same thing to a black man carrying a duffel bag and tries to go after him. Doyle gets killed after he murders the black man he was profiling.
As a result, his precinct tries to keep the details of Doyle’s death hush-hush as they didn’t want to ruin his legacy, but Atwater does the right thing and speaks up. Atwater’s bold choice to speak out lands him in hot water as he now has more than criminals to worry about.
Season 7’s events will play a pivotal role in how season 8 plays out. In season 8, Chicago P.D. showrunners are looking to address more than just crime in Chicago. The show is looking to address police brutality and racism.
The show is set to introduce a pivotal character who will look into the 21st District, especially HankVoight and his team. It will also give fans peace of mind about Atwater’s fate as he tries to go up against the ‘blue wall.’
The first case of the new season isn’t going to be a cheery one
Following season 7’s finale events, it is quite unlikely that season 8 would open on a lighthearted note. According to Cinemablend, the series’ first episode, Fighting Ghosts, follows the Intelligence Unit as they investigate ‘aggravated battery with a firearm on a tender age.’
From the photos shared of the new season’s first episode, it seems fans will have to buckle up and prepare for a dark storyline. The team is supposedly rushing to respond to a case about the shooting of a five-year-old girl. The episode Fighting Demons is set to air on 11th November 2020.
