Chip and Joanna Gaines Reveal the Secret to Their Successful Marriage
The world met Chip and Joanna Gaines through their TV show, Fixer Upper. But this couple has been working together for years, raising kids and renovating homes — they’re one busy family.
When they’re sharing that many projects, the Gaines spend a lot of time together. So, how do they make their relationship work? Luckily, we recently learned the secret to their successful marriage.
Chip Gaines revealed the secret to his successful marriage
According to Chip, the secret to their relationship is pretty simple. It’s a concept that works for any kind of relationship and can make the world a better place all-around- Respect. It all comes down to that simple concept, but it’s makes a big impact.
“Our secret ingredient to our marriage and working relationship is a solid mutual respect,” Chip revealed during the INBOUND Conference, according to Parade. “We definitely disagree. It’s not perfect. A lot of hard work goes into this, but if you can get to a mutual place of respect, you can change the world.”
Chip and Joanna’s relationship isn’t just about their home life. Like many couples, they share a family, which includes five kids, but unlike many couples, they also work together. There’s the TV show, HGTV’s Fixer Upper, and their business, Magnolia Market. So this couple has to work very closely with each other, and that can be a struggle sometimes.
“This is a very hard thing to do, to work together with someone you also have a relationship and a family with,” Chip continued. “We definitely disagree. It’s not perfect. But for Jo and I, it really is a special bond we’re extremely proud of. We work really well together.”
Chip and Joanna Gaines have been remodeling homes from the very beginning
This adorable television couple has been married since 2003. They met when Joanna worked at her father’s auto shop. Chip walked into the shop and saw Joanna’s photo on the wall. At that moment, he knew that he’d marry her one day. So, he kept going back to the shop until one day he finally ran into her and was able to ask her on a date.
Unfortunately, Chip was an hour late for the date, and he had to climb up a Magnolia tree to get her attention. Eventually, she came around and forgave him and as a bonus, they had a great name for their business (after the tree)- Magnolia Market.
Chip already owned rental properties while they were dating. A year into their relationship, one of his properties opened up, so the couple moved into the home together in order to fix the place up. It was the beginning of their long career together.
Soon, they were also married. They opened their business, Magnolia Market and started having children. These two are true friends and partners in every aspect of life.
What’s next for Chip and Joanna Gaines?
Fixer Upper ended after five seasons, so what are Chip and Joanna up to now? Joanna had a spin-off show, Behind the Design, which goes behind the scenes and offers more details on the remodels and designs she did for Fixer Upper. Two seasons have aired so far and there’s been no information on a season three. But unfortunately, it doesn’t look good. Behind the Design may be done for good.
But Chip and Joanna aren’t done with TV. Launching in the summer of 2020, the Gaines are starting their own home design cable network. They’ll star in a show on the network, but there will also be other shows around the same concept. It should be a lot of fun for home renovation lovers.
